What's Happening This Week-----October 15th Through October 19th

Just a Reminder:  "Donuts With Dad" is this Wednesday, October 17th.

Kindergarten

Phonics----The Kindergarten students will learn the sound that the letter "Aa" makes----keyword----apple.  The students will learn that the letter "Aa" is a vowel letter.

Reading----The Kindergarten students will be reading phonics words with the letter "Aa" in them.  Some words to be read will be:  pat, tap, pan, at, hat, tan and an.  The students will also learn the words----go and the.  The students will continue to read color words. 

Handwriting----The Kindergarten students will be printing the letter "Aa" and phonics words.

Math----The Kindergarten students will be learning about the numbers 1-10.  The students will also be learning about the terms----"Above. Below, Top, Middle, Bottom, Over, On and Under".

Religion----The Kindergarten students will learn that "God Made Us".

First Grade

Phonics----The First Grade students will learn "Digraph -ng and Suffix -ing", Suffix -ed, Digraph -ee, and the "Rule VC/CV".

Reading-----The First Grade students will be reading the stories----"Space Pup" and "Where Do Frogs Come From?".  The students will be reading the booklet----"Do You See It?".

English----The First Grade students will continue learning about "Nouns".  Then, the students will learn about "One and More Than One" and "Special Nouns".

Spelling----The First Grade students will be learning spelling words that have a "short "u" sound".  This week's spelling words are:  us, sun, but, fun, bus, run and puppy.  The Special Words are:  are, one and there.

Math----The First Grade students will learn about "Tens and Ones" and "Ten Through One Hundred".

Religion----The First Grade students will learn that "Jesus Sends His Holy Spirit".

Social Studies----The students will learn about "Directions".

Science----The students will learn about "Animals---"What They Need to Live", " How Animals Meet Their Needs", "How Animals Eat Food" and "Animals Grow and Change".

What's Happening This Week----October 8th Through October 12th

Kindergarten

Phonics----The Kindergarten students will continue their study of the sound that the letter "Pp" makes----keyword----pig.  The students will learn that the letter "Pp" is a consonant letter.  Then, the students will learn the sound that the letter "Aa" makes----keyword----apple.   The students will learn that the letter "Aa" isa vowel letter.

Reading----The Kindergarten students will be reading the phonics words:  log, hog, hot, pot, top, lot, got, pop, at, pat, tap and hat.  Color words will continue to be read.

Handwriting----The Kindergarten students will print the letters "Pp" and "Aa".  The students will also print phonics words and their name.

Math----The Kindergarten students will study "Transferring Patterns" and "Making Their Own Patterns".  The students will also learn about "Cube and Rectangular Prism".  TH students will also learn about the terms of "Above and Below".

Religion----The Kindergarten students will learn that "God Made All People".

First Grade

Phonics----The First Grade students will be learning about the "Digraph th, Digraph -ng and the suffix -ing, and the suffix -ed".

Reading----The First Grade students will be reading the stories----"Boots For Beth" and "Space Pup".  The booklet----"Ben"----will also be read.

English----The First Grade students will learn about "Nouns----naming words for Things and Places".

Spelling----The First Grade students will learn Spelling words that have the "Short "Ee" Sound".  The Spelling this week are:  yes, let, red, ten, bed, get and messy.  The "Special Words" are:  for, they and have.

Math----The First Grade students will learn about "Addition of Three Numbers", "Tens and Ones" and "Tens Through One Hundred"

Religion----The First Grade students will learn that "Jesus Died and Rose to a New Life".

Social Studies----The students will review "American Symbols".  Then, the students will learn about "Directions".

Science----The students will learn about the "Types of Animals", "What Animals Need to Live" and "How Animals Meet Their Needs"..

What's Happening This Week----October 1st Through October 5th

Just a Reminder:    This Friday, October 5th, is our Kindergarten/ First Grade Field Trip.  All the students are so excited.

Kindergarten----The Kindergarten students will continue their study of the sound that the letter "Tt" makes----keyword----tent.  Then, the students will learn the sound that the letter "Pp" makes----keyword----pig.  The students will learn that the letters "Tt" and "Pp" are consonant letters.

Reading----The Kindergarten students will be reading a phonics word list.  Color words will continue to be read.

Handwriting----The Kindergarten students will be printing the letters "Tt" and "Pp".  The students will also be printing phonics words and their first name.

Math----The Kindergarten students will continue to "Identify and Write the Numbers 1-8", making "Patterns" and learning about the shapes of "Cylinder, Cone and Sphere".

Religion----The Kindergarten students will learn about "Ordinary Time" in the church year.

First Grade

Reading----The First Grade students will be reading the stories----"Dan's Pet" and "Boots For Beth".  The students will also be reading the booklet----"Fix-It Fox".

English----The First Grade students will be reviewing past items that have been learned----such as, end mark, the correct sentence, naming part of a sentence, action part of a sentence, telling and question sentences. The students will learn about "Nouns".

Spelling----The First Grade students will review past spelling words.  The Spelling words this week are:  an, can, cat, bad, had, ran, in, did, six, pig, sit and big.

Math----The First Grade students will learn how to use the "Number-Line" to do addition problems, learning "Double Facts",  "Double plus 1 Facts" and "Addition Patterns".

Religion----The First Grade students will learn that "Jesus Had Many Followers".

Science----The students will learn about "Animals".

Social Studies----The students will learn about the "Statue of Liberty" and "Directions".

Reading----The Kindergarten students will be reading the phonics words----log, hog and hot.  The students will also be reading color words.

Handwriting----The Kindergarten students will be printing the letter "Tt" and the phonics words----log, hog and hot.  The students will continue printing their first name on the red bottom line.

Math----The Kindergarten students will learn about "Patterns".  The students will also continue to learn about the numbers 0-7 and the shapes----circle, square, rectangle and triangle.

Religion----The Kindergarten students will learn about "The Church Year".

Centers----The Kindergarten students will be making a pattern necklace; print numbers and put fish into the fish bowls; making a letter "Tt" on a play-dough mat; make flash cards; do number and letter puzzles and use a dry ease board to review past items that have been learned.

First Grade

Reading----The First Grade students will be reading the stories "All That Corn" and  "Dan's Pet". The students will also read the booklet----"One For Me".

Spelling----The First Grade students will study spelling words that have a short "Ii" sound in them.  The Spelling words this week are:  in, pig, did, sit, six and big.  The special words are:  to, of and is.

English----The First Grade students will learn about "What Kind of Sentence Is It?' and "Question Words".

Math----The First Grade students will learn about " Sums From 7 Through 12" and  "Number-Line Addition".

Religion----The First Grade students will learn about "The Church Year" and "Ordinary Time".

Centers----The First Grade students will  do string reading vocabulary words; string English question words; make math flash cards; use the magnetic board for the spelling words; use the magnetic board for question words and use a dry ease board to review past items that have been learned. 

Science----The students will learn "The Different Places Where Plants Live".

Social Studies----The students will continue to learn about "American Symbols----The Liberty Bell and the Statue of Liberty". The students will also learn about "Johnny Appleseed".

What's Happening This Week----September 17th Through September 21st

Kindergarten

Phonics----The Kindergarten students will continue their study of the sound that the letter "Hh" makes----keyword----hat.  Then, the students will learn the sound that the letter "Tt" makes----keyword----tent.  The students will learn that both the letters "Hh" and "Tt" are consonant letters.

Reading----The Kindergarten students will read the words----log, hog and hot,  The students will continue to read and spell out color words.

Handwriting----The Kindergarten students will print the letters "Hh" and "Tt". The students will also be printing the phonics words-----log, hog and hot. The students will be printing their first name on the bottom line.

Math----The Kindergarten students will be learning to recognize and print the numbers "5" and "6".  The numbers 0-6 will be printed.  The "triangle" shape will continue to be studied.  All the past shapes learned will also be studied----circle, square and rectangle.  The students say a poem for each shape, in order to help the students remember the shapes. Patterns---Color and Shape Patterns ----will be studied.

Religion----The Kindergarten students will learn that "God Made the Animals".

Centers----The Kindergarten students will be using play-dough to make the letters "Gg" and "Hh" and the words l--o--g and h--o--g; using pipe cleaners to string on plastic letters to spell out their phonics words----l--o--g , h--o--g and h--o--t; print phonics words on small dry ease boards; putting magnetic letters on a magnetic board to spell out their phonics words and do puzzles with the numbers 1-2-3-4-and 5 and the letters "Ll", "Oo", "Gg", "Hh" and "Tt".

First Grade

Phonics----The First Grade students will learn the word family words of----"all", "in" and "an".

Reading----The First Grade students will be reading the stories----"Todd's Box" and "All That Corn".  The booklet----"A Sack For You"----will be read.

English----The First Grade students will continue learning about "Telling Sentences" and "Question Sentences".

Writing----The First Grade students will color a picture of a box and then write their own story about what is in their box.

Spelling----This week's spelling words will be the "an" word family and short vowel "a" words.  The spelling words are:  an, can, fan, man, pan, ran, tan, van, bad, had and cat.

Math----The First Grade students will learn about "Addition Sentences" and "Addition Facts" and "Related Addition Facts".

Religion----The First Grade students will learn that "Jesus Taught Us About Love".

Centers----The First Grade students will be using play-dough to make spelling words; using pipe cleaners to string on plastic letters to spell their reading vocabulary words; putting magnetic letters on a magnetic board to spell out their reading vocabulary words.; making flash cards and using a small dry ease board to spell their spelling words.

Science----The students will be learning about "Parts of a Plant----Flower, Fruit and Seed" and "How Plants Grow and Change".

Social Studies----The students will learn about "American Symbols----"The Flag and the Bald Eagle".

Kindergarten

Phonics----The Kindergarten students will continue their study of the sound that the letter "Gg" makes----keyword----goat.  Then, the students will learn the sound that the letter "Hh" makes----keyword----hat.

Reading----The Kindergarten students will be reading color words and the words ----log and hog.

Handwriting----The Kindergarten students will be printing the letters "Gg" and "Hh".  The students will also be printing the words----log and hog.  The students will continue to learn the correct way to hold a pencil and how to print their name to sit on a line.

Math----The Kindergarten students will learn the number "5" , review numbers 0-5, shapes---circle, square and rectangle, the colors green and purple and color patterns..

Religion----The Kindergarten students will be learning that "God Gives Us Land".

First Grade

Phonics----The First Grade students will learn about the "Suffix ""s", "Blends" and the sound that "ck" makes in a word-----such as in the words----Jack and Rick.

Reading----The First Grade students will be reading the stories "Jack and Rick" and "Todd's Box".  The students will also be reading the booklet----"Mack and Sam".

English----The First Grade students will be learning about "Telling Sentences and Question Sentences".

Spelling----The First Grade students will be learning the short vowel sound for the letter "Ii".  This week's spelling words will be the "it" word family words.  This week's spelling words are: it, bit, fit, hit, kit, pit, sit, lit and knit.

Religion----The First Grade students will be learning that "Jesus Worked Among People".

Science----The students will learn about "Different Plants" and the "Parts of a Plant----Fruit, Flower and Seeds".

Social Studies----The students will learn about "Our World" and "American Symbols-----the Bald Eagle".

What's Happening This Week-----September 4th Through September 7th

Kindergarten

Phonics----The Kindergarten students will continue learning about the letters and their sounds.  The students will continue their study of the sound that the letter "Oo" makes----keyword----octopus.   The students already know that the letter "Oo" is a vowel letter.  Then, the students will learn the sound that the letter "Gg" makes----keyword----goat.  The students will learn that the letter "Gg" is a consonant letter. 
Reading----The Kindergarten students will be learning how to put the sounds that the letters
 make to sound out the word---" l--o--g ".  When new a letter and each letter sound has been  learned, another phonics word will be made and sounded out.
Handwriting----The Kindergarten students will be printing the letters "Oo" and "Gg".  The students will also be printing their first name.
Math----The Kindergarten students will be "Sorting----by color, size and shape".  The students will also be learning to "Identify and Write "0--zero-- and  "1". The students will also be learning about the number "4", the "rectangle" shape and the color "green".
Religion----The Kindergarten students will be learning that "God Gives Us Water".  God made us water and God's gift of water is everywhere.
Centers----The Kindergarten students will be "sorting objects by size", using play-dough to make the letters "Ll", "Oo" and "Gg", picture puzzles for the numbers 1,2,3 and 4 and picture puzzles with the letters "Ll", "Oo" and "Gg" and making flash cards for the color green, rectangle shape, the number 4 and the letter "Gg". Small dry ease boards will also be used to practice previous letters, shapes and numbers.

First Grade

Phonics----The First Grade students will be learning the sound that "ck" makes.
Reading----The First Grade students will be reading the stories----"Ants" and "Jack and Rick".  The students will also be reading the booklet "Tim and Pam".
English----The First Grade students will be learning about the "Action Part of a Sentence" and about "Telling Sentences".
Writing----The First Grade students will be writing their own story about a bear and a rabbit.
Spelling----The First Grade students will be learning spelling words that are in the "at" Word Family.  The Spelling this week are:  at, bat, cat, hat, mat, pat, rat and sat.
Math----The First Grade students will be learning about "One Fewer and One More", "Order Numbers from "0" Through "12", "Count On" and "Count Back".
Religion----The First Grade students will learn about how "Jesus Grew up in a Family".
Centers----The First Grade students will be doing play-dough words, doing string words, reading their index box flash cards with a partner, using magnetic letters to make reading vocabulary words. and making flash cards.

Social Studies----The students will be learning about "Our Country" and "Our World".
Science----The students will be learning about "Living and Non-Living Things" and the "Parts of a Plant".

Daily Activities:   The Kindergarten and First Grade students, in our classroom, say the "Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag" and all our morning prayers.  The students count to the number of the day that we have been in school. do the calendar, say the ABC's ----letters and sounds and count to "100". The students also review past letters and their sounds, colors, shapes and numbers and number words that have been learned.  The students sing songs about:  the "Days of the Week", "Following the Rules", "Interrupting Rules", "Tattle Tale Rules", "Who Let the Letters Out" song and a Noah Ark song.
