What's Happening This Week---- March 16th Through March 20th

Kindergarten

Phonics----The Kindergarten students will continue their study of the sound that the letter "Cc" makes----keyword----cat.  Then, the students will learn the sound that the letter "Ee" makes----keyword----elephant.

Reading----The Kindergarten students will read "Sight Words", "Phonics Words" and Phonics word sentences.  The students will read the phonics booklet----"Ben is Ten".

The students will individually read these reading items to me.

Handwriting----The Kindergarten students will print the letters "Cc" and "Ee".  Phonics word sentences will also be printed.

Math----The Kindergarten students will learn about "Patterns", "Calendar" and "Ordering Numbers".  The students will begin a unit on "Subtraction".

Religion----The Kindergarten students will learn that "We Honor Mary".  The students will also learn that "God the Father Gives Us Jesus".  The students will be making a "Stations of the Cross" booklet.

First Grade

Phonics----The First Grade students will review the "Long Aa Sound".  Then, the students will learn that "y" can = a long Ee sound as in the word----any.

Reading-----The First Grade students will read the stories----"Me on the Map" and "At Home Around the World".  The students will also read the booklets----"Baseball" and "Eating Yummy Cake".

English----The First Grade students will learn about "Adjectives".

Spelling----The First Grade students will learn spelling words that contain the "Long Vowel Sound" and "Mixed Vowel Sounds".

Math----The First Grade students will learn how to "Tell Time to the Half Hour".  The students will also learn about "Patterns" and the "Calendar". The students will learn how to "Regroup in Tens and Ones when doing addition problems"----in other words the students will learn how to "carry" in addition problems. Rocket Math addition and subtraction problems will continue to be done. 

Religion----The First Grade students will learn that "The Church Welcomes New Members Through Baptism" and that "We Are Followers of Jesus".

Science----The students will learn about "Matter---- it can be changed by heating or cooling".  Then, a unit on "Energy" will be started.

Crafts----This week's crafts will center around St. Patrick's Day.
