The Kindergarten/ First Grade students have been doing much testing these past two weeks. Two weeks ago, the students did Achievement Tests. Then, last week I tested the students for the their First Semester Skills. I am every proud of all the students.
This will be a short week of school. Parent-Teacher Conferences will be on Thursday, October 24th---then, no school on Friday, October 25th.
Kindergarten
Phonics----The Kindergarten students will continue their study of the sound that the letter "Aa" makes----keyword----apple. The students will learn that the letter "Aa" is a vowel letter. Then, the students will learn the sound that the letter "Nn" makes----keyword----nest. The students will learn that the letter "Nn" is a consonant letter.
Reading----The Kindergarten students will be reading phonics words that contain the letters "Aa" and "Nn". Some of these phonics words will be: tag, tap, hat, pat, at, not,tan, an, ant, nap and pan. The students will also be reading the following Sight Words: color, you, and, my, a, the, name, go and see. The students will be reading the booklet----"Hot, Hot, Hot". The students will continue to read color words.
Handwriting----The Kindergarten students will print the letters "Aa" and "Nn". Phonics word sentences will also be printed.
Math----The Kindergarten students will continue their study of "Positions". The #10 will be learned. The students will do dot-to-dot worksheets with the numbers 1-10.
Religion----The Kindergarten students will learn that "God Made All People".
Centers----The Kindergarten students will be using "Play Dough Letters and Words" and the "Scribble Board" for review.
First Grade
Phonics----The First Grade students will learn about the sound of "ng" and "ing". Past sounds will be reviewed----"ar", "ch", "sh", "wh" and "th".
Reading----The First Grade students will be reading the story----"Space Pup" and "Where Do Frogs Come From?". The booklet----"Do You See It?" ----will be read.
English----The First Grade students will continue their study of "Special Nouns". Then, the students will learn about "Naming Yourself Last".
Spelling----The First Grade students will learn words that contain the "dr", "gr" and "tr" sound. This week's spelling words are: drip, trap, drop, drum, trip, grin and branch.
Math----The First Grade students will learn about "Real Graphs", "Picture Graphs", "Pictographs" and "Bar Graphs". Two-digit numbers will be added.
Religion----The First Grade students will learn that "Jesus Had Many Followers" and that "Jesus Rose to a New Life".
Centers----The First Grade students will do "Play Dough Words", "Addition Wheels", "Word Wheels" and "Scribble Board" for review.
Science----The students will continue their study of "Animals".
Social Studies----The students will learn about "Our Country", "Using Pictures {Maps}" and the "Fire Station".
Crafts----The crafts this week will center around "Fall", "Halloween" and the "Fire Station".
