What's Happening This Week----September 3rd Through September 6th

Kindergarten

Phonics----The Kindergarten students will continue their study of the sound that letters make.  The letter "Gg"---keyword---goat----will be studied this week.  The students will learn that the letter "Gg" is a consonant letter.  The students will learn to sound out the word----l-o-g----by sounding out one letter sound at a time.  The students will wear a letter vest with the letter "l", "o" or "g", printed on a letter vest.  Three students will stand in front on the classroom, wearing a letter vest with a "l", "o" or "g", printed on a letter vest.  I will point to each letter, one at a time, while the students slowly sound out each letter's sound.  When the students say each sound they will realize that they are reading the word-----log.

Reading----The Kindergarten students will cheer and read color words.  The color word-----"green" will especially be cheered and read.  The students will learn to read the word----l-o-g.

Handwriting----The Kindergarten students will be printing the letters-----"Ll", "Oo" and "Gg".  The students will also be printing the word----log----and their first name.

Math----The Kindergarten students will continue to learn about "positions"----Top, Middle, Bottom, Over, On, Under, Inside and Outside.  The students will learn about the number "4".  The students will learn how to print the #4; how to count 4 objects in a set and how to recognize the number 4.  The students will also learn about the "Rectangle" shape.  The students will learn the #4 and the rectangle shape by poems that will be said.

Centers----The Kindergarten students will be using a "Scribble Board" to review past letters, numbers and shapes.  Play dough letters will be made. Letter and Number puzzles will be done.  The students will also be making "Flash Cards" to be taken home to be studied.

Religion----The Kindergarten students will learn that "God Gives Us Water".

First Grade


Reading----The First Grade students will be reading "Sight Words". The students have  2 Sight Word booklets in which they use to learn their "Sight Words",  The students will read the stories "Ants" and "Jack and Rick".  The booklet----"Tim and Pam", will also be read.  The students will be making flash cards, with the vocabulary words from the stories and the booklet.

Phonics----The First Grade students will be learn the sound that "ck" makes----like in the name Jack and Rick.  The keyword for the "ck" sound is----lock.

English----The First Grade students will learn about "Telling Sentences".

Spelling----The First Grade students will review past Spelling words.  The students will be reviewing the Spelling Words with the "Short Aa" sound and Spelling Words with the "Short Ii" sound.  The Spelling words to be reviewed are:  an, bad, can, had, cat, ran, in, pig, did, sit, six and big.

Math----The First Grade students will learn about "Addition Sentences" , "Sums Through 6" and "Order 0 Through 12".  Rocket Math worksheets will continue to be done.

Religion----The First Grade students will learn that Jesus grew up in a family----"The Holy Family".

Centers----The First Grade students will do "Play Dough Words", "Letters and Their Sound Mailboxes", "Magnetic Board" used to spell out the vocabulary and spelling words and "Scribble Boards" to review past phonics sounds , vocabulary and spelling words.

Science----The students will continue their study of "Plants".

Social Studies----The students will continue their study of the "American Symbols".
