What's Happening This Week-----August 26th Through August 30th

Kindergarten

Phonics----The Kindergarten students will learn the sound that the letter "Oo" makes----keyword----octopus.  The students will learn that the letter "Oo" is a vowel letter.

Reading----The Kindergarten students will read the color words---- red, blue and yellow.

Handwriting----The Kindergarten students will print the letters----"Ll" and "Oo".  The students will also print their first name.

Math----The Kindergarten students will learn about the number "3".  The students will learn how to print the number "3"; put "3" objects on a ten-frame; learn a number "3" cheer and put "3" fish in a fish bowl.  The "square"  shape will be learned.  The students will learn the "square" shape by saying a poem----Sally Square is my name. My four sides all look the same.  Draw up, across, down and back. My box shape is right on track.  Sally Square is my name. My four sides all look the same.  The students will learn about "Positions----Above, Below, Top, Middle and Bottom".

Religion----The Kindergarten students will learn that "Everything That God Made is Good".  The students will also learn that "God Gives Us Light".

Centers----The Kindergarten students will make "play dough" letters----"Ll" and "Oo".  The students will also do "Number Fish Bowls" and  the "Number Train".  The "Scribble Board" will be used to review----#1, #2, #3, "Ll", "Oo", "circle" and the "square".

First Grade

Reading----The First Grade students will read the stories-----"Sam and the Bag", "Ants" and "Jack and Rick".  The students will also read the booklet----"Tim and Pam".  The students will make flash cards with the reading vocabulary words and sight words on them.  The flash card words will be:  walk, they, make, here, they, to, of and is.

English----The First Grade students will continue learning about the "Parts of a Sentence----the "Naming Part" and the "Action Part".

Writing----The First Grade students will write a sentence about "A cat".  The students will also  write spelling word sentences.

Spelling----The First Grade students will learn spelling words that contain the "short "Ii" sound".  This week's spelling words are:  in, pig, did, sit, six and big.

Math----The First Grade students will learn about "One Fewer and One More", "Ordinals---1st Through 10th", "Ordinals----From Top to Bottom", 'Understanding Addition" and "Printing the Numbers and Number Words #6 through # 10". "Rocket Math" worksheets will continue to be done.

Religion----The First Grade students will learn that "God Gives Us Special Gifts", about the "Blessed Trinity", 'Jesus is God's Greatest Gift" and that "Jesus Grew up in a Family".

Centers----The First Grade students will "Make Flash Cards", "Do Play Dough Words", "Using the Magnetic Board" to put their vocabulary and spelling words on and "Using Word Family Flash Cards" and "Number Family Flash Cards".

Science----The students will learn about "Plant Parts", "How Plants Look Different" and "Which Plants You Can Eat".

Social Studies----The students will continue to learn about "American Symbols"----The Statue of Liberty and Uncle Sam.
