What's Happening This Week-----April 1st Through April 5th

Kindergarten

Phonics----The Kindergarten students will continue their study of the sound that the letter "Xx" makes----keyword----fox.  Then, the students will learn the sound that the letter "Ww" makes----keyword----wagon.  The "ap" Word Family and the "ug" Word Family words will be learned and read. 

Reading----The Kindergarten students will be reading words that contain the letters "Xx" and "Ww".  The students will be reading the words:  fox, box, six, web, wag, wig, win, well weld, wind, west, will, went and wept.  Some Sight Words to be read will be:  was, will, love, you, jump, said do, to, and, very and I.  The students will be reading the booklets----"Gus the Duck", "The Big Hit" and "Spin to Win".  Reading worksheets will be done that go with the booklets.  "ap Word Family" and "ug  Word Family " words will be read.

Handwriting----The Kindergarten students will be printing the letters "Xx" and "Ww".  The students will also be printing phonics sentences.

Writing----The Kindergarten students will be writing sentences to go with a picture that they will color.  The students will review the English rules:  A sentence begins with a capital letter, makes sense and ends with an end mark.

Math----The Kindergarten students will do problems where they will be "Subtracting Money".  The students will be learning to "Identify and Write Larger Numbers".

Religion----The Kindergarten students will learn that "We Pray at Mass" and "We Care About Others as Jesus Did".


First Grade

Phonics----The First Grade students will learn the "Combination ir", the "Combination ur", the "Soft C Sound" and the "Diagraph aw". 

Reading----The First Grade students will be reading the stories----"The Busy Buzzy Bee"  and "The Story of the Blue Bird".  The students will also read the booklets----"Squirrels at Home" and "Surfer Girl".

English----The First Grade students will learn about "Book Titles", "Months of the Year" and "Holidays".

Spelling----The First Grade students will learn about words where the " y makes an i sound".  This week's spelling words are:  my, why, try, sky, shy, dry, fly, by, cry and fry.  This week's Challenge Words are:  type and myself.  The Special Writing Words are:  down, every and because.

Writing----The First Grade students will be writing their own stories and spelling word sentences.

Math----The First Grade students will "Add and Subtract 3-Digit Numbers". Story Problems will also be done.  Rocket Math will continue to be done.

Religion----The First Grade students will learn that "We Share God's Love". "We Share God's Love with our Families and With Others",  Then, the students will learn about "Mary and the Saints".

Science----The students will learn about "Matter", "Motion", "Pushes and Pulls" and "Simple Machines".

Social Studies----The students will learn about "Maps".
