What's Happening This Week----April 8th Through April 12th

Kindergarten

Phonics----The Kindergarten students will continue to learn about the sound that the letter "Ww" makes----keyword----wagon.  Then, the students will learn the sound that the letter "Qq" makes----keyword----quilt.  The students will learn that the letters "Ww" and "Qq" are consonant letters.

Reading----The Kindergarten students will read the following booklets----"Spin to Win",  " Peg the Hen" and "Mox's Shop".  The students will read phonics word lists.  Flash cards will be made and read with sight words on them.

Writing----The Kindergarten students will write sentences about pictures that they color.  The students will learn that a sentence  begins with a capital letter and ends with an end mark. A sentence is a group of words that make sense.

Handwriting----The Kindergarten students will be printing the letters "Ww" and "Qq".  The students will also be printing phonics word sentences.

Math----The Kindergarten students will be printing numbers to 100.  The students will be counting by 10's to 100, and printing and learning numbers by counting by 2's to 20. The students will be using ten frames and blocks to make "number bonds" or number families.

Religion----The Kindergarten students will learn that "Jesus Shares His Friendship With Us".

First Grade

Phonics----The First Grade students will learn about the "Soft C" sound '"Combination wh", "Diphthongs oi and oy", "tion--shun" and "Digraph au".

Reading----The First Grade students will read the stories----"The Story of the Blue Bird" and "Frog and Toad All Year".  The students will also read the booklets----"The Long Flight" and "Surfer Girl".

English----The First Grade students will about "Holidays"---The name of a holiday begin with a capital letter , "Commas in Dates" and "Commas With Place Names".

Spelling----The First Grade students learn spelling words that end with "Adding s". The spelling words are:  jet, jets, frog, frogs, tail, tails, week, weeks, gate and gates.  The Challenge Words are:  wagon and wagons.  The Special Writing Words are:  mother, father and more.

Writing----The First Grade students will be writing their own spelling word sentences and their own stories. The students will be writing sentences about "Jesus and Easter".

Math----The First Grade students will do "Story Problems".  The students will continue doing "Rocket Math" worksheets with addition and subtraction problems.

Religion----The First Grade students will learn that "We Honor Mary and the Saints".

Science----The students will learn about ' Simple Machines", " Magnets", "Energy and Heat", "Sound" and "Light".

Social Studies----The students will learn about "Maps".
