What's Happening This Week----September 17th Through September 21st

Kindergarten

Phonics----The Kindergarten students will continue their study of the sound that the letter "Hh" makes----keyword----hat.  Then, the students will learn the sound that the letter "Tt" makes----keyword----tent.  The students will learn that both the letters "Hh" and "Tt" are consonant letters.

Reading----The Kindergarten students will read the words----log, hog and hot,  The students will continue to read and spell out color words.

Handwriting----The Kindergarten students will print the letters "Hh" and "Tt". The students will also be printing the phonics words-----log, hog and hot. The students will be printing their first name on the bottom line.

Math----The Kindergarten students will be learning to recognize and print the numbers "5" and "6".  The numbers 0-6 will be printed.  The "triangle" shape will continue to be studied.  All the past shapes learned will also be studied----circle, square and rectangle.  The students say a poem for each shape, in order to help the students remember the shapes. Patterns---Color and Shape Patterns ----will be studied.

Religion----The Kindergarten students will learn that "God Made the Animals".

Centers----The Kindergarten students will be using play-dough to make the letters "Gg" and "Hh" and the words l--o--g and h--o--g; using pipe cleaners to string on plastic letters to spell out their phonics words----l--o--g , h--o--g and h--o--t; print phonics words on small dry ease boards; putting magnetic letters on a magnetic board to spell out their phonics words and do puzzles with the numbers 1-2-3-4-and 5 and the letters "Ll", "Oo", "Gg", "Hh" and "Tt".

First Grade

Phonics----The First Grade students will learn the word family words of----"all", "in" and "an".

Reading----The First Grade students will be reading the stories----"Todd's Box" and "All That Corn".  The booklet----"A Sack For You"----will be read.

English----The First Grade students will continue learning about "Telling Sentences" and "Question Sentences".

Writing----The First Grade students will color a picture of a box and then write their own story about what is in their box.

Spelling----This week's spelling words will be the "an" word family and short vowel "a" words.  The spelling words are:  an, can, fan, man, pan, ran, tan, van, bad, had and cat.

Math----The First Grade students will learn about "Addition Sentences" and "Addition Facts" and "Related Addition Facts".

Religion----The First Grade students will learn that "Jesus Taught Us About Love".

Centers----The First Grade students will be using play-dough to make spelling words; using pipe cleaners to string on plastic letters to spell their reading vocabulary words; putting magnetic letters on a magnetic board to spell out their reading vocabulary words.; making flash cards and using a small dry ease board to spell their spelling words.

Science----The students will be learning about "Parts of a Plant----Flower, Fruit and Seed" and "How Plants Grow and Change".

Social Studies----The students will learn about "American Symbols----"The Flag and the Bald Eagle".
