What's Happening This Week----August 27th Through August 30th

Kindergarten

Phonics----The Kindergarten students will be learning the sound that the letter "Oo" makes----keyword----octopus.  The students will learn that the letter "Oo" is a vowel letter.
Reading----The Kindergarten students will be reading and spelling color words----by doing color word cheers.
Handwriting----The Kindergarten students will be printing the letters "Ll" and "Oo".  The students will also be printing their first name.  The students are learning that all letters sit on the bottom red line, how to hold a pencil correctly, to sit up straight with their back to the back of their chair and to hold the printing paper with their other hand so that the paper will not move while printing, and to print neatly.
Math----The Kindergarten students are learning about "Sorting---by color, shape and size".  The students are also learning to write numbers correctly.  The formation of number are learned by saying a "Number Poem" for each number---for example: # 1= One long stick---"1" is fun : #2= Around and back on the railroad track---the train goes---2, 2 , 2 !
The  Kindergarten students are also learning about the circle and square shapes.  The colors red, blue and yellow will be learned and cheerlead.in order to remember how to spell and recognize the color word and it's letters.
Religion----The Kindergarten will be learning that "God Gives Us Light".  The students are saying their prayers every morning , in our classroom, before we begin our school day.  The prayers we say are:  "Sign of the Cross" Prayer, "Angel of God" Prayer, "Hail Mary" Prayer, "Glory Be" Prayer, "Our Father" Prayer and the "Morning Prayer.  The students are also learning to use their right finger to make the Sign of the Cross and they are learning the correct way to do the Sign of the Cross Prayer.
Centers----The Kindergarten students will be:  using play-dough to make the letter "Oo";  doing puzzle pictures to learn the letters"Ll" and "Oo" and the numbers "1" and "2"; making flash cards; painting a picture using the color "yellow" and doing a dot painting of the letter "Oo".

First Grade

Reading----The First Grade students will be reading the story "Sam and the Bag" and "Ants".  The students will also be reading the booklet----"Al and Max". 
English----The First Grade students will be learning about the "Naming Part of a Sentence" ,"Action Part of a Sentence" and about "Telling Sentences".
Writing----The First Grade students will be writing their own "Ant" story. Through writing , the students learn the correct way to spell words, about the parts of a sentence and the correct way a sentence begins and ends.
Math----The First Grade students will be learning about "Ordinal Numbers----First through Tenth".
The students will also learn to read and write the number words----ten, eleven and twelve.  Our classroom counts to 100 and talks about the calendar and the days of the week on a daily basis.
Religion----The First Grade students will learn about the "Blessed Trinity".
Centers----The First Grade students will be making flash cards, reading the flash cards with another student for word practice, using magnetic letters to make the flash card words on a magnetic board, using play-dough to spell out words and using a pipe cleaner to put letters on to make "String Words"

Social Studies----The students will be learning about "Families and Change----Now and Then" and  different kinds of "Communities".
Science----The students will be learning "Living and Non-Living Things".
