What's Happening This Week----October 9th Through October 13th

Kindergarten

Phonics----The Kindergarten students will continue their study of the sound that the letter "Tt"makes----keyword----tent.  Then, the Kindergarten students will learn the sound that the letter "Pp" makes----keyword----pig.  The students will learn that the letter "Tt" and "Pp" are consonant letters.

Reading----The Kindergarten students will be reading color words, especially the color word----"brown".  The Kindergarten students will be reading phonics words----log, hog, hot, got, lot and tot.  Then, the Kindergarten students will be reading the phonics booklet----"Hot, Hot, Hot".  This booklet will be sent home as homework for the students to read to their parents.

Handwriting----The Kindergarten students will be printing the letters----"Tt" and "Pp".  The students will also be printing their first name and phonics words.

Math----The Kindergarten students will be learning the number "6".  Number "6's" poem is -----"Down to a loop, "6" rolls a hoop.  The students will also be learning about "Right, Left, Between, Before and After".

Religion----In Chapter 9, the Kindergarten students will learn that "God Made Us". God loves us and God made each one of us special----each with our own talents.

Science----The Kindergarten students will learn about "Animals Life-Cycles".  Then, the students will learn about "Plants".

Social Studies----The Kindergarten students will learn about "Christopher Columbus".


First Grade  

Phonics----The First Grade students will be studying the sound that the letter "Zz" makes----keyword----zebra.

Reading----The First Graders will start the second book in the First Grade reading series.  The story the First Grade students will read is "Dan's Pet".  The booklet----"Fix-It Fox"---- will also be read.

English----The First Grade students will be learning about "Question Words", "Proofreading" and "Nouns For People and Animals".

Handwriting----The First Gade students will be printing the letter "Zz" and some sentences about an "Angel".

Writing----The First Grade students will be writing their own spelling word sentences.

Spelling----In Unit 10, the First Grade students will be having a "Short Vowel Review".  This week's spelling words are:  him, hot, man, men, top and cut.  The Challenge Word is:  cabin.  This week's spelling word test will be on Thursday, October 12th.

Social Studies----The First Grade students will learn about "Christopher Columbus".
