What's Happening This Week ----October 23rd to October 26th

Kindergarten

Phonics----The Kindergarten students will be learning the sound that the letter "Aa" makes----keyword----apple.  The students will be learning the letter "Aa" is a vowel letter.

Reading----The Kindergarten students will be reading color words and phonics words.  Some of the phonics words to be read will be:  top, hop, pop, got, lot, hat, at, pat and tap.

Handwriting----The Kindergarten students will be printing their first name, phonics words and the letter "Aa".

Math----The Kindergarten students will be learning about the "Positions----Before, Between and After".  The Kindergarten students will be "Identifying and Writing the Numbers 6 and 7".  The students will continue to review the Numbers 1-7.  Then, the students will learn how to write the number "8" by saying the #8 poem----Make an "S" and do not wait, climb back up to make an "8". The students will be counting "Frog on a Log" and using a magnetic ten-frame to count objects.

Religion----The Kindergarten students will learn in Chapter 19 that "God Helps Us to Discover" his world by giving us the gift of our five senses.

Science----The Kindergarten students will learn about "What Plants Need to Grow".

Social Studies----The Kindergarten students will learn about "Using a Map Key' and "Needs and Wants".

First Grade

Phonics----The First Grade students will learn about the "Suffix -S", "Blends", "Words with the letter Dd" and the "th" sound.

Reading----The First Grade students will be reading the booklet "Ben".  Then, the story "Space Pup" will be read.

English----The First Grade students will continue their study of "Nouns".

Writing----The First Grade students will be writing their own sentences using this week's spelling words.

Spelling----The First Grade students will be reviewing the spelling words in Units 7-11.  This week's spelling words are:  let, ran, six, can, tent, hot, top, but, lamp, fun, got, went, us, man, yes, men and pop.

Math----The First Grade students will learn about "Tens Through One Hundred"----counting by tens.  The students will also be learning about Numbers !! Through 59"----how each number made up of tens and ones.

Crafts----The Kindergarten and First Grade students will be making "Halloween Crafts".
