What's Happening This Week----September 25th Through September 29th

Kindergarten

Phonics----The Kindergarten students will continue their study of the sound that the letter "Hh" makes----keyword----hat.  The students have learned that the letter "Hh" is a consonant letter.  Then, the students will learn the sound of the letter "Tt"----keyword----tent.  The students will learn that the letter "Tt" is a consonant letter.

Reading----The Kindergarten students will be reading the color words----especially the color words----red, blue, yellow, green and purple.  The students will also be reading the phonics words----log, hog, hot , pot , got and hot.  Next, the students will be reading the phonics booklet----"Hot, Hot, Hot".

Handwriting----The Kindergarten students will be printing the letter "Hh" and "Tt".  The students will also be printing their first name and phonics words.

Math----The Kindergarten students will continue their study of "Patterns".  The "Square and Rectangle" shape will also be studied.  Then, the "Positions----Above, Below, Top. Middle, Bottom, Over, On and Under" will be studied.  The students will also be learning to count objects slowly and print the numbers 1-5. The students will continue the study of shapes----learning about the "Triangle".

Religion----In Chapter 7, the Kindergarten students will be learning about "Ordinary Time" in the Church Year. In Ordinary Time we celebrate the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.

Social Studies----The Kindergarten students will be learning about "Johnny Appleseed" and the "Earth".

Science----The Kindergarten students will be learning about "What Animals Need?" and "How Animals Grow and Change".

First Grade

Phonics----The First Grade students will be learning the two sounds the letter "Ii" makes----the short "Ii" sound as in the word igloo and the long "Ii" sound as in the word ivy.

Reading----The First Grade students will be reading the story----"Todd's Box" .  Then, the booklet----"A Sack For You'----will be read.  Later, the students will read the story----"All That Corn".  The students will be reviewing all the past reading "Words to Remember" words.  This is a list of all the "Words to Remember"----down, got, up, oh, in, and, yes, walk, they, make, help, now, play, don't, of  and so.

Handwriting----The First Grade students will be printing the letter "I" and "i".

Writing----The First Grade students will be writing their own story of their own "Box".

English----The First Grade students will continue their study of "Question" sentences.

Spelling----In Unit 8, the First Grade students will be learning "Short "Ee" words".  This week's spelling words are: yes, let, red, ten, bed, get and messy. The week's spelling test will be on Friday, September 29th.  The students will also be reviewing the past Special Words----the, and,a,to.of,is, I, was, you, for, they and have.

Math----The First Grade students will continue their addition problems with "Rocket Math".  Also, "Sums of 11 and 12", "Other Names for Numbers" "Number-Line Addition" and "Doubles"----will be studied.

Social Studies----The First Grade students will learn about "Johnny Appleseed" and  about the "Earth".
