What's Happening This Week----September 18th Through September 22nd

Kindergarten

Phonics----The Kindergarten students will continue their study of the sound that the letter "Gg" makes----keyword----goat. Then, the students will begin their study of the sound that the letter "Hh" makes----keyword----hat.  The students will learn that the letter "Hh" is a consonant letter.

Reading----The Kindergarten students will be reading the phonics words----log and hog.  The students will also continue reading color words----red, blue, yellow and green,  The students learn the color words by cheerleading the color words.

Handwriting----The Kindergarten students will be printing the letters "Gg" and "Hh".  The students will also be printing the phonics words----"log" and "hog". The students will be printing their first name.

Math----The students will be reviewing "Big, Small, Same, Different and Alike".  Then, the students will review the shapes----"Square" and "Rectangle".  Next, "Patterns" will be studied.  The students will continue their study of the "Rectangle Shape" and the number "4".

Religion----In Chapter 6, the Kindergarten students will learn about "The Church Year".

Science----The Kindergarten students will learn about "Animals".

Social Studies----The Kindergarten students will learn about "Communities----City, Town and Farm Life" and "Our World".

First Grade

Phonics----The First Grade students will learn the two sounds that the letter "Ii" makes----"the short "Ii" sound as in "inch" and "the long "Ii" sound as in "ice".  The students will learn that the letter "Ii" is a vowel.  Also, the students will learn the "ck" sound as in the words "Jack " and "Rick".

Reading----The First Grade students will be reading the story----"Jack and Rick" and the booklet----"Mack and Sam".  This week's Practice Words are:  help, now, play, too and want".

English----The First Grade students will review "What a Sentence Is" and "Telling Sentences".  Then, the students will learn about "Question Sentences".

Writing----The First Grade students will be writing their own story of a "Bear".

Handwriting----The First Grade students will be printing the letter "Ii".

Spelling----The First Grade students will be learning "Short Oo Spelling Words".  This week's spelling words are:  on, box, fox, got, not, pop and block.   This week's spelling word test is on Friday, September 22nd.

Math----The First Grade students will continue their study of "Ordinals----First Through Tenth", "Related Addition Facts" and "Sums of 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12".

Social Studies----The First Grade students will learn about "Communities----City, Town and Farm Life" and "Our World".
