What's Happening This Week in Kindergarten-----August 29th Through September 1st

The Kindergarten students had a great start to the school year.  The students have done may hands-on activities. The students say the "abc's each morning along with each letter's sound.  Every morning the students say their prayers, say the "Pledge of Allegiance  to the Flag", count to "100", talk about the "calendar", x-out a number from our "100th day chart", and say all the number and shape poems that they have learned.so far. The students have been learning the classroom rules.


Kindergarten Phonics----Last week, the Kindergarten students learned the sound that the letter "Ll" makes---keyword---lion.  This week, the students will learn the sound that the letter "Oo" makes----keyword----octopus.

Kindergarten Reading----The Kindergarten students are learning to read color words.  Last week, the students learned to read the color word "red".  This week, the students will learn to read the color word "blue"  The students learn the color words by doing a "cheer" to each color word.  For example---for the color word "red" the cheer is:  Give me a "r"----Give me a "e"----Give me a "d".  What does that spell? {red}  What does that spell?  {red}  Hooray!

Kindergarten Handwriting----The Kindergarten students, last week, printed the letter "Ll".  This week, the Kindergarten students will be printing the letter "Oo".  The Kindergarten students are also learning to print their name on the bottom red line----no floaty letters not sitting on the bottom red line.  The students are also learning how to hold their pencil correctly.

Kindergarten Math----The Kindergarten students, last week, learned the "circle shape", the number "1", the directions "left' and "right" and "sorting----by color.  This week, the students will learn the "square shape" and the number "2".  The students learn the shapes and the numbers by saying poems as they make the shape or number while saying the poem. The students will continue learning about "sorting"---by shape.

Kindergarten Religion----Last week, the Kindergarten students learned that "God Made the Whole World" and "God Made All Things". The students sang the song---"He's Got the Whole World in His Hands".  This week, the students will learn that "God Gives Us Light---the Sun and the Moon".

Kindergarten Social Studies----Last week, the Kindergarten students learned the classroom rules .  The students also learned about "Our Flag". This week, the students will learn about other "American Symbols----"The Bald Eagle and the Liberty Bell".

Kindergarten Science-----Last week, the Kindergarten students learn about our "Five Senses"  The students will continue to learn about our "Five Senses".  Then, the students will learn about "Living and Non-Living Things".
