What's Happening the Week of February 1st Through February 5th

Kindergarten

Phonics----The students will continue learning the sound that the letter "Uu" makes----keyword---Umbrella.  The students will learn that the letter "Uu" is a vowel.
Reading----The students will be reading word lists and the phonics booklet-----"The Big Trip".  "Uu" phonics words will be read, such as----sun, tub, run, rug, bug, mug hug tug up, rut, rub, must and trust. The sight words will be: from, I and of.
Handwriting----The students will be printing the letter "Uu".
Math----The students will continue their study of "Time to the Hour".  Then, "Time Sequence" and "More Time and Less Time" will be studied.
Religion----In Chapter 19, the students will learn that "Jesus Wants Us to Love".
Science----The students will be learning about the Earth's "Natural Resources" and "Weather".
Crafts----Crafts will center around "Valentine's Day".

First Grade

Phonics----The students will be learning about the "Final Syllables----"tle", "gle", "zle", "sle", "kle" and "cle".  Then, the students will learn that the letter "y" is a vowel at the end of a word or the letter "y" can be a suffix at the end of a word.
Reading----The students will be reading the story----"Me on the Map'' and the phonics booklet----"Baseball".
English----The students will be reviewing past English units----adjectives, nouns, pronouns, contractions, is--are, was--were, and "er" or "est"
Spelling----The students will be reviewing past spelling word units ---Units 19-23.  The spelling words this week will be:  drive. ride, we, them, joke, so, tree, green, like, make, bath and then. 
This week's spelling word test will be on Thursday, February 4th.
