What's Happening This Week ----September 14th Through September 18th

Book Fair is Tuesday, September 15th----books, games and concessions.

Grandparents Day is Thursday, September 17th----Mass, refreshments and bingo.

Kindergarten

Phonics----The students will continue their study of the sound that the letter "Gg" makes-----keyword---goat.  Then, the students will learn the sound that the letter "Hh" makes----keyword---hog.
Reading----The students will be reading the phonics words----"log" and "hog".  The students will continue reading color words.
Handwriting----The students will be printing the letters "Gg" and "Hh".  The students will continue printing their first name.
Math----The students will be learning to identify and write "2" and "3".  The "square" and "rectangle" shapes will be studied.  "Sorting By Size and Shape" will be studied.  The students will be doing a hands-on activity---sorting beads according to color.  The colors---red, blue and yellow will continue to be learned and their color word poems will be cheered.  Then, the color----green---will be learned.  The triangle shape will be the next shape to be learned.
Religion----In Chapter 4, the students will learn that "God Gives Us Land".
Science----The students will be learning about "Animals".
Social Studies----The students will continue learning about "American Symbols"----"The Liberty Bell", "The Statue of Liberty" and "Uncle Sam".


First Grade

Reading----The students will be reading the story "Todd's Box" and the booklet-----"A Sock For You".
Writing----The students will be writing their own story about a bunny.  The students will also be writing their own sentences---using this week's spelling words.
Spelling----This week's spelling words contain the short"o" sound, "o" as in "octopus".  This week's spelling words are:  on, got, fox, box, pop, not and block.  This week's special words are:  was, I and you.  This week's spelling test will be on Thursday, September 17th---due to my taking off of school on Friday, September 18th---to get ready for my daughter's wedding on Saturday, September 19th.
English----The students will be learning about "Question Sentences".  A question sentence asks something, begins with a capital letter, makes sense and ends with a question mark.
