What's Happening This Week----August 31st Through September 3rd

Kindergarten

Phonics----The students will begin their study of the sound that the letter "Oo" makes---keyword---octopus.  The students will learn that the letter "Oo" is a vowel.

Reading----The students will be learning to read the color word----"blue"  The students will learn the color word "blue" by learning to cheerlead the word "blue".

Handwriting----The students will be printing their first name and the letters "Ll" and "Oo".

Math----The students will continue with the unit on "Sorting".  The students will be learning to sort objects by color, size and shape.  The  "number 2''  and the "square shape" will be studied.

Religion----In Chapter 2, the students will learn that "God Gives Us Light".

Social Studies----The students will be learning about "Our American Symbols".

Science----The students will be learning about "Living and Non-Living Things".

First Grade

Phonics----The students will study the sounds that the following letters make:  "Ii", "Ll', "Aa", and "Zz". The "an", "at" and "ap" word families will be studied.

Reading----The students will be reading the story "Ants".  The booklet-----"Tim and Pam" ----will also be read.

Handwriting----The students will be printing the letters----"Ii", "Ll", "Aa" and "Zz".

Writing----The students will be writing their own story about an "Ant".  Spelling word sentences will also be written.

English----The students will be studying "Telling Sentences".

Spelling----This week the students will be studying "short Ii words.  The spelling words are:  in, pig, did, sit, six, and big.  The extra special words are:  to, of   and is.  This week's spelling word test will be on Thursday, September 3rd, as this is a short week of school.
