What's Happening This Week----February 9th Through February 13th

The Kindergarten boys and girls had a great time on Cowboy/Cowgirl Day.  The students had broom horse races; played "Pin the Tail on a Cow"; danced the "Hokey Pokey"; ate "Cowboy/Cowgirl snacks----beef jerky, cow tales candy,ginger snap cookies and drank root beer; made a cowboy/cowgirl bracelet; did cow math worksheets---adding cows and coloring worksheets and doing stickers.

Just a Reminder:   Our Kindergarten Valentine's Day Party will be on Friday, February 13th a 1:30 pm.  The students will be decorating a Valentine's Day Mail Sack, at school, to be used at their Valentine's Day Party.  The students may decorated a Valentine's Day box, at home----if desired.

Phonics----The students will continue their study of the sound that the letter "Ee" makes----keyword---elephant.  The students have learned that the letter "Ee" is a vowel.  Then, the students will learn the sound that the letter "Yy" makes---keyword---yarn.  The students will also learn about the "est" word family.

Reading----The students will be reading word lists and phonics booklets.  The phonics booklet "Ben is Ten" will be read.  The students will continue reading sight words----where, who, four, to I, of, you my, see, look, into, one and the.  The students will be learning the sight word----what. Some other words to be read will be:  net, help, ten, get, step, nest, mess, let, set, hen, egg, fell, tell, best, spell, and rest. The students will continue reading color words and number words.

English----The students will continue learning about the sentence rules.  The students will continue learning about punctuation marks----the period{at the end of a telling sentence} and the question mark{at the end of an asking sentence}.  The students play a hands-on game----I read a sentence and the students hold up the correct punctuation mark for the end mark.  Then, each student gets a turn to make up a sentence and everyone has to hold up the correct punctuation mark for the end mark.

Writing----The students will be writing sentences using the sight word "what" and the correct punctuation mark for the end mark.

Math----The students will be learning about "Joining {Addition}.  The students will be learning how to read a number sentence; what the symbols "+" and "=" mean; and how to use a number line to jump and find the answer to a "joining {addition} problem.

Religion----In Chapter 22, the students will learn that "We Belong to the Church".

Science----The students will learn about "Energy---Sound and Light"

Social Studies----The students will be learning about "Abraham Lincoln".

Crafts This Week----The Cowboy/Cowgirl theme will continue.  Then, Valentine crafts will be done.  Also, Abraham Lincoln crafts will be done.
