What's Happening the Week of January 19th Through January 23rd

The Kindergarten students will be very busy this week with activities on Thursday, January 22nd helping to celebrate the 100th Day of School.  Some of the 100th Day activities will be---counting to 100 by 1's, 5's and 10's. write numbers to 100, listening to 100th Day of School stories, doing a 100th Day of School dot painting, wearing a 100th Day of School hat, necklace and bracelet,  and hop,skip, clap 100 times etc.

Then, on Friday, January 23rd, the Kindergarten students will have a "Frozen Day" at school.

Phonics----The students will continue learning about the sound that the letter "Uu" makes---keyword---umbrella.  The students will  learn that the letter "Uu" is a vowel.  Then, the students will learn about the sound that the letter "Zz" makes----keyword---zebra.  The students will learn that the letter "Zz' is a consonant. The students will be learning about the "ug" word family.

Reading----The students will be reading word lists and the phonics booklet----"Zip". Some of the words to be read will be:  tub, tug, up, rut, rub, run, must, trust, but, pup, us, bus, fun, hug, snug, plum stump, tusk,  fizz, fuzz,buzz,zip and zap.

Handwriting----The students will be printing the letters "Uu" and "Zz".  Phonics words in sentences will also be written.

English----The students will continue learn about the sentence rules.

Math----The students will continue to learn about fractions---1/2 and 1/4.  Then, "Telling Time to the Hour" will be learned.  The 100th Day of School activities will be done.

Religion----In Chapter 17, the students will learn that "Jesus Grew Up in a Nazareth".  The students have one more lesson in their "Growing In Love" Religion Book, so the students will be learning about Jesus through ---Bible stories. The students will continue with their lessons in their "We Believe" Religion Book.

Science----The students will continue to learn about the four "Seasons".  Then, the students will learn about "Matter".

Social Studies----The students will be learning about Martin Luther King, Jr.

Crafts----The crafts this week will center around the winter theme, 100th Day of School and "Frozen Day".
