What's Happening the Week of January 12th Through January 16th

Phonics----The students will continue their study of the sound that the letter "Bb" makes----keyword---balloon.  Then, the students will begin their study of the sound that the letter "Uu" makes----keyword---umbrella.  The students will learn that the letter "Uu" is a vowel. The students will also be learning about the word family "ap".  Some "ap" words to be read will be----cap, flap, gap, lap, map, nap, snap, trap, and strap.

Reading----The students will be reading the phonics booklet----"The Big Trip".  The students will be reading phonics word lists.  The students will continue to learn sight words---words that the students should know by sight and many can not be sounded out.  The next sight word to be learned is----four.  Some of the "Uu" words that the students will be reading are: hug, sun, mug, bug, pup, tub, up, tug, rut, rub, run, must, trust, and but.

English----The students will continue to learn about the sentence rules----A sentence begins with a capital letter, ends with an end mark and makes sense.

Writing----The students will be writing phonics word sentences.

Handwriting----The students will be printing the letters "Bb" and "Uu".

Math----The students will be learning about ---"Equal Parts", "Symmetry", "Halves" and "Fourths".

Religion----In Chapter 16, the students will learn that "God the Father Gives Us Jesus".  Noah Ark story will be read, a worksheet done and Noah Ark stickers will be done.

Social Studies----The students will learn about "Earth"----it is made up of land and water, and has seven land areas called continents.  "Where Families Live" will also be studied.

Science----The students will be learning about the "Seasons".

Crafts----The crafts this week will center around the season of winter.
