What's Happening the Week of August 18th Through August 22nd

Phonics----The students will continue their study of the sound that the letter "Ll" makes----keyword---lion.  Then, the students will be learning the sound that the letter "Oo" makes---keyword---octopus.  The students will learn that the letter "Oo" is a vowel.

Reading----The students will be learning to read color words----red and blue.  One way the students will learn how to read the color words is by cheering the words.

Handwriting----The students will be printing the letters "Ll" and "Oo".  The students will also be printing their first name. The students are learning that letters sit on a line.  The students are also learning the correct way to hold a pencil and how to sit when printing.  

Math----The students will be learning how to write the number 1 and 2. The students will continue to study the "circle" shape.  Then, the "square" shape will be studied. The students will also be learning about the terms---" alike, same and different".  The students will then be sorting by color, size and shape.

Religion----The students will continue learning that God made all things.  Then, in Chapter 2, the students will learn that "God Gives Us Light".  The students are learning about ----their left and right hand.  The students are to use their right hand when saying their prayers.

Social Studies----The students will continue learning about our "American Symbols"----the Flag and the Bald Eagle.

Science----The students will be learning about "Our Five Senses".

Crafts----For the letter "Ll"----the students will be making a paper plate ladybug and a thumbprint lion.  Then, for the letter "Oo"----the students will be making an owl magnet, an owl visor, and using owl stamps and owl stickers.

The students have been learning about the classroom procedures and rules through the use of songs.
