What's Happening the Week of February 24th Through February 28th

Kindergarten

Phonics----The Kindergarteners will continue their study of the sound that the letter "Zz" makes--keyword---zebra.  Then, the next letter of study will be the sound that the letter "Cc" makes---keyword---cat.

Reading----The students will be reading word lists and the phonics booklet "Zip".

Handwriting----The students will be printing the letters "Zz" and "Cc".  Phonics word sentences will also be printed.

Math----The students will be learning about the fractions----one half and one fourth.  Then, the students will learn about "joining"---or addition.  The students will be doing addition problems and learning how to add numbers,by jumping on a number line.

Religion----The students will continue their study, in Chapter 23, that "Jesus Taught Us How to Pray".  Then, in Chapter 25, the students will learn that "We Should Care About Others As Jesus Did".

First Grade

Phonics----The students will learn about the combinations----"ir" and "ur".

Reading----The students will continue reading the story----"On the Way to the Pond".  Then, the students will read the booklet----"Let's Play".  Next, the story---"Friend Forever"---will be read.

Spelling----The students will begin Unit 24.  Unit 24 is a review unit.  The spelling words in Unit 24 are:  path, whip, brave, gave, bike, nine, home, bone, tree, and green.  Unit 24 spelling word test will be on Friday, February 28th.

English----The students will be reviewing "Words That Look Alike", "Nouns , Verbs, Contractions, and Sentences".

Writing----The students will be writing their own spelling word sentences and stories.

Math----The students will be learning about "One Half, 1/2", "One Fourth, 1/4, and "One Third, 1/3".  The students will also be learning about "Part of a Set" and the "Addition and Subtraction of Three-Digit Numbers".  "Rocket Math" worksheets will continue to be done.

Religion----The students will learn that "The Church Welcomes New Members".  Then, the students will learn that "We Are Followers of Jesus".

Science----Everyone will continue their study of "Living Things----Plants and Animals".  Then a unit on "Our Earth----Land and Water" will be started.

Just a Reminder:   Monday, March 3rd is "Cat in the Hat" Day, in our K-1 Classroom.  The K-1 students may wear their "Cat in the Hat" outfit to school on Monday, March 3rd. The students will be making a "Cat in the Hat"Hat and Bow-tie, to wear with their outfit.  I will paint their face----to look like the "Cat in the Hat'---if they choose so.
