What's Happening the Week of February 18th Through February 21st

A great time was had by all the K-1 Class at our Valentine's Day Party.  A big thank you to all the room mothers who helped make our party so nice.  Thank you to everyone who sent snacks for the party.

I want to thank everyone for all the nice Valentine cards and goodies.

Our K-1 Class made many projects on the  morning of February 14th.  Everyone made a Valentine Hat,  a Valentine Necklace, a Valentine Card, a Valentine Candy Heart Bracelet, and a Valentine Sack.  Valentine cookies were decorated as our morning snack. Several Valentine pictures were colored and some pictures were made using Valentine foam shapes.

Kindergarten

Phonics----The Kindergarteners will continue their study of the sound the letter "Uu" makes---keyword---umbrella.  Then, the sound the letter "Vv" makes---keyword---vest---will be studied.

Reading----The students will be reading word lists and phonics booklets.  Word family words will also be read.

Handwriting----The students will be printing the letter "Uu" and "Vv".

Math----The students will be learning about "Symmetry", "Equal Parts", "Exploring Halves", and "Exploring Fourths".  The students will also be writing numbers 1-40.

Religion----In Chapter 23, the students will learn that "We Pray As Jesus Did".

First Grade

Phonics----The students will be learning about the combinations "er", "ir", and "ur".

Reading----The students will continue reading the story "Tomas Rivera"..Then, the students will read the story "On the Way to the Pond".

Spelling----In Unit 23, the students will learn words that have the long "e" sound.  This week's spelling words are: he, see, she, tree, me, feet, we, be, green, and peek.  This week's spelling word test will be on Friday, February 21st.

English----The students will be reviewing "Words That Look the Same", "Noun and Verb a Agreement", "Contractions", "What is a Sentence?", and "Nouns and Pronouns" 

Writing----The students will be writing stories using the characters from their reading story---"On the Way to the Pond".  Spelling word sentences will also be written.

Math----The students will be learning about "Symmetry", "Equal Parts", "One Half, 1/2", and "One Fourth, 1/4".  "Rocket Math" will continue to be done.

Religion----The students will learn about the "First Sacrament----Baptism".  Then, the students will learn that "We Are Followers of Jesus".

Science----Everyone will learn about "Animals"----"What Do Animals Need to Live?', "Which Animals Eat Plants?", "How Do Mammals Grow and Change?", and "What is a Grassland Habitat?".
