What's Happening the Week of January 6th Through January 10th

A very special thank you to all the room mothers who made our Christmas Party so nice.  I want to thank everyone for the nice Christmas gifts and cards.

The Kindergarteners will be bringing home their naptime mats and pillows.  The Kindergarteners only have naptime the first semester, so the students will not need to bring their mats and pillows back to school. 

Kindergarten

Phonics----The students will continue their study of the sound that the letter "Ff" makes and "Ff" words.  Then the students will study the sound that the letter "Rr" makes----keyword----rabbit.

Reading----The students will be reading a phonics booklet called----"Stan's Pigs".  Phonics word lists and color words will be read.  The students begin a "Word Journal"----writing sight words and phonics words.

Handwriting----The students will be printing the letters "Ff" and "Rr".  The students will also be printing their first and their last name.

Writing and English----The students will be writing sentences and stories.  The students will learn that a sentence begins with a capital letter and ends with an end mark.  A sentence has to make sense.

Math----The students will be learning about "tally marks", "picture graphs", "pictographs", and "bar graphs".  Then, the students will learn to identify and write the numbers "11" and "12".

Religion----In Chapter 15, the students will learn that "God Chooses Mary".

First Grade

Phonics----The students will learn about the "Digraph Sh" and the "Digraph Ch".

Reading----The students will be reading the story "Fun With Fish".  Then, the story "I Am a Butterfly" will be read.

English----The students will learn about "verbs".

Spelling----In Unit 19, the students will learn words that contain the letters "th" and "wh".This week's spelling words are:  that, with, which, path, when, this, them, bath, whip, then, think,wheel, where, what, and who.  Unit 19"s spelling word test will be on Monday, January 13th.

Writing----The students will be writing stories using "winter characters----such as snowflakes, polar bears, penguins,etc.

Handwriting----The students will be printing pages in their "Handwriting Workbook".

Math----The students will learn about "venn diagrams", "picture graphs", "pictographs" and "bar graphs".  The students will continue doing "Rocket Math".

Religion----The students will learn that "The Church Serves".  Then, in Chapter 15, the students will learn that "The Church Serves Others".

Social Studies----Everyone will learn about "Putting Things in Order".

Science----Everyone will learn about "Living and Non-Living Things".
