What's Happening the Week of December 16th Through December 20th

The K-1 Christmas Party will be on Friday, December 20th.  The boys are to bring a boy's gift , labeled "Boy", and the girl's are to bring a girl's gift , labeled "Girl".  The gifts should have a value of $5.  The gifts may be brought to school anytime, during this school week.

Also, the Italian Feast is fast approaching.  Our classroom Italian Feast Basket Theme is "Game Night".  Please keep our Italian Feast Basket's Theme items in mind when shopping during those after Christmas sales.  

Also, each K-1 student in our classroom is in need of new crayons and glue sticks.  It would be great if each student could bring these new supplies to school after the Christmas break.

Your help is greatly appreciated in all these matters.

Kindergarten

Phonics----The students will continue their study of words that contain the letter "Ss".  Then, the sound of the letter "Ff"---keyword---fish---will be studied.

Reading----The students will be reading word lists and the phonics booklet----"Stan's Pigs".  Color words will continue to be read.

Handwriting----The students will be printing the letters "Ss" and "Ff".  The students first and last name will be printed.  Phonics words will also be printed.

Math----The students will be learning about the terms "fewest and most", and "equalizing sets".

Religion----The students will be learning about "Christmas"----the time of the church when we celebrate Jesus' birth.

First Grade

Phonics----The students will be studying the combination "or" and the digraph "sh".

Reading----The students will continue reading the story "Try Your Best".  The booklet "Just One More" will also be read.  Then, the story "Fun With Fish" will be read.

Spelling----The students will be taking a spelling word test over Unit 17 spelling words.  Then, Unit 18 will be started.  Unit 18 is a review unit.  This week's spelling words are:  drip, grin, club, sled, fast, step, egg, miss, chin, and wish.This week's spelling test will be on Thursday, December 19th.

English----The students will continue reviewing----question sentences, naming yourself last, and pronouns.  Then, "Verbs" will be studied.

Handwriting----The students will be printing pages in their "Handwriting Workbooks".

Writing----The students will be writing their own story---using Christmas Characters"---such as "Santa".  The students will also be writing their own story, using the characters from their reading story "Try Your Best". Spelling word sentences will also be written.

Math----The students will be learning how to do "Addition and Subtraction Story Problems".  Then, "Venn Diagrams" and "Tally Mark Charts" will be studied.  ""Rocket Math" will continue to be done.

Religion----The students will be learning about "Christmas"----the time of the church year when we celebrate the birth of Jesus.

Social Studies----Everyone will be learning about "What is a Leader?", "Using a Calendar", "Using Picture Graphs" and "Putting Things in Order". 

Crafts----Everyone will be making many Christmas projects.
