What's Happening the Week of January 13th Through January 17th

Kindergarten

Phonics----The students will be learning about the letter "Rr's" sound.

Reading----The students will be reading phonics word lists, "Rr" words, sight words and color words.  Then, the students will read the phonics booklet----Frog Runs.

Writing/English----The students will be writing sentences.  While writing sentences, the students learn that a sentence begins with a capital letter and ends with an end mark called a period{if the sentence is a telling sentence}.

Handwriting----The students will be printing the letter "Rr" and their first and last name.

Math----The students will be learning about "Bar Graphs", "Identify and Write the Numbers 11, 12, 13, and 14".

Religion----The students will learn in Chapter 16, that "God the Father Gives Us Jesus".

First Grade

Phonics----The students will be learning the "Digraph Sh", "Ame Word Family", "Ake Word Family", "and the "Combination Ar".

Reading----The students will continue doing workbook pages from the story "Fun With Fish".  The booklet----"At the Fish Shop"----will be read.  Then, the students will receive the third reader in the First Grade Reading Series.  The story-----"I Am a Butterfly"-----will be read.

English----The students will be learning about "Verbs"

Spelling----The students will continue learning the words in Unit 19.  Unit 19 spelling words are: that, with, which, path, when, this, them, bath, whip, then, think, wheel, where, what, and who.  Unit 19 spelling word test will be on Tuesday, January 14th.  Then, the students will begin the study of Unit 20 spelling words.  Unit 20 spelling words are:  came, make, brave, bake, take, name, late, gave, shape, game, parade, erase, out, about, and over. Unit 20 spelling word test will be on Tuesday, January 21st.

Writing----The students will be writing stories about "polar bears", "butterflies", and "verb stories".  Spelling words sentences will also be written.

Math----The students will be learning about "Bar Graphs", "Venn Diagrams", and the "Tens and Ones".

Religion----The students will learn the "The Church Serves".  In Chapter 15, the students will learn that "We Belong to a Parish".

Science----Everyone will be learning about "Living and Nonliving Things".
