What's Happening the Week of November 18th Through November 22nd

A big thank you to Mrs. Barnicle and Mrs Missy Evers, who were my substitute teachers, when I was sick Thursday and Friday last week.  It made me feel a lot better to know the students were in such good hands during my absence.

Kindergarten

Phonics---The students will continue their study of words that contain the sound of the letter "Mm".  Then, the letter "Ii" sound---keyword---inch---will be studied.

Reading----The students will be reading "Mm" words, "Ii" words, phonics word lists, and the phonics booklet----"Hop on a Mop".

Handwriting----The students will be printing the letters "Mm" and "Ii".  The students will also be printing phonics words and their first name.

Math----The students will be learning about "Patterns---Size and Growing", "Transfer Patterns", and "Number Patterns".

Religion----The students will learn that "God Loves Them" and that they "Can Tell God Anything".  Then, the students will learn that "We Use Our Senses to Discover God's World".  Next, the students will learn that "We Learn About God With Our Family".

First Grade

Phonics----The students will be reading words that contain the sound of the letter "Bb", the "ing" word family words, and "ng" and "ing" words.

Reading----The students will be reading the story "Space Pup".  The reading booklet----"Do You See It?"---with the "Words To Remember"---will also be read.  Then, the story "Where Do Frogs Come From?" will be started.

Spelling----Unit 14 Spelling Word Test will be given.  Then, Unit 15 "st" words will be studied.  This week's Unit 15 spelling words are:  nest, fast, stop, must, stop, best, stick, your, their, and other  This week's spelling test will be on Friday, November 22nd.

English----The students will continue their study of "Special Nouns".  Then, the students will learn that you should "Name Yourself Last".  Next, "Pronouns" will be studied.

Handwriting----The students will be printing pages in their "Handwriting Workbook".

Writing----The students will be writing their own spelling word sentences, their own story---using the "Space Pup" character, and their own "Thanksgiving" story.

Math----The students continue learning about "Subtraction". Ten-frames and number line subtraction will be reviewed.  "Rocket Math" will continue to be done.

Religion----The students will learn that "Jesus Followers Believed That He was the Son of God", "Jesus Taught His Followers How to Pray", "Jesus Died and Rose to a New Life".

Social Studies----Everyone will learn about the "Pilgrims", "The First Thanksgiving", and a review of the "Native Americans".  In the "Time For Kids" magazine---everyone will learn about "Thanksgiving---Then and Now".

Crafts----This week's crafts will center around the "Thanksgiving" theme----A "Indian Head Band and n Necklace", "Indian paper-bag puppets, and "Pilgrim---Paper Plate Boy and Girl".
