What's Happening the Week of October 28th Through November 1st

Kindergarten

Phonics----Th students will continue learning the sound of the letter "Aa"----keyword---apple.  Then, the students will be learning the sound of the letter "Nn"---keyword---nest.

Reading----The students will be reading color words , word lists, and phonics words.

Handwriting----The students will be printing the letters "Aa" and "Nn".  The students will also be printing their first name and phonics words.

Math----The students will learn about the number-line.  A number-line is a kind of a chart with numbers on a line.  The numbers on a number-line come in a certain order.    Then, the students will learn about "ordinal numbers"----the position of a number---first through tenth.  Number patterns will also be studied.

Religion----In Chapter 8, the students will learn that "God Loves All People".

First Grade

Phonics----The students will be learning about the sounds the letters---"Kk", "Cc", and "Bb" make in  words.

Reading----The students will continue reading the story "Dan's Pet".  Then, the students will read the story "Boots For Beth".  The booklet "Ben" will also be read.

English----The students will continue their study of "Nouns".

Spelling----The students will take a spelling word test over Unit 12.  Then, Unit 13 will be started.  The spelling words in Unit 13 are:  drip, trap, drop, drum, trip, grin, branch, all, from and do.  Unit's 13 spelling word test will be on Monday, November 4th.

Writing----The students will be writing their own "noun" sentence, spelling word sentence, and story----using the characters from their reading story---"Boots For Beth".

Handwriting----The students will be printing pages in their "Handwriting Workbook".

Math----The students will be learning the 4 steps to problem solving----read, plan, write, and check.  Then, the students will be starting a chapter on "subtraction".  "Rocket Math" will continue to be done.

Religion----In Chapter 6, the students will learn about "The Church Year".  Then, in Chapter 7, the students will learn about "Ordinary Time"---in the Church year.

Social Studies----Everyone will be learning about  "Map Keys", "Families and Change", and "Using Directions".

Crafts----The students will be doing many "Halloween" projects.
