What's Happening the Week of October 21st Through October 25th

Everyone had a wonderful time on the Preschool, K-1 Field Trip on Friday, October 18th.  A special thanks to all the drivers who helped drive everyone on our field trip.

Kindergarten

Phonics----The students will be learning about the sound that the letter "Aa" makes----keyword---apple.  The students will learn that the letter "Aa" is a vowel..

Reading----The students will be reading color words.  The students will also be reading words that contain the letter "Aa"----such as----at, tag, pat, and hat.

Handwriting----The students will be printing the letter "Aa" , their first name, and some phonics words.

Math----The students will be reviewing 8 and 9.  Then, the number 10 will be studied.  The students will be doing many worksheets containing the number 10----such as dot-to-dot worksheets from 1 to 10.  A number-line will be introduced.  The students will be printing numbers 1-10.

Religion----In Chapter 8, the students will learn that "God Made All People".

First Grade

Phonics----The students will be learning words that contain the letters "Kk", "Cc", and "Bb".

Reading----The students will be reading the story "Dan's Pet".  Through the workbook pages that go along with "Dan's Pet" story---the students will be learning the "short "Ee" sound".

English----The students will continue learning about "Nouns".

Spelling----A spelling word test over Unit 11, will be given .  Then, Unit 12 will be started.  Unit 12 is a review unit of the spelling words from units 7-11. The spelling words from Unit 12 are:  on, box, ten, bed, sun, bus, cut, jump, tent, got, and yes.  Unit 12's spelling word test will be on Friday, October 25th.

Writing----The students will be writing their own sentences containing a "noun". The students will also be writing a story about the "Three Seeds".  When writing their own sentences or story---the students have to remember to use the sentence rules----begin each sentence with a capital letter and have an end mark at the end of the sentence or sentences.

Handwriting----The students will be printing pages in their "Handwriting Workbook".

Math----The students will learn how to add three numbers together.  Then, the students will be working with addition strategies----using different ways to solve a problem.  Many addition worksheets will be done.  The students will continue doing "Rocket Math" worksheets.

Religion----In Chapter 5, the students will learn that "Jesus Taught That All People Are Our Neifhbor".  Then, in Chapter 6, the students will learn about "The Church Year".  In Chapter 7, "Ordinary Time" in the church year will be studied.

Social Studies----Everyone will learn about "What Is Weather?".  Then, "Seasons", "Using a Map Key", and "Families on the Move"---transportation---will be studied.  The "Time For Kids" magazine will also be read.

Crafts----Many Halloween crafts will be done.
