What's Happening the Week of April 8th Through April 12th

Kindergarten

Phonics----The students will be learning the sound of the letter "Ww"---keyword---wagon.  The students will be doing many "Ww" worksheets.

Reading----The students will be reading many "Ww" words, word lists, and a phonics booklet called---"Spin to Win".   Some of the "Ww" words will be:  web, wig, wet, west, twin, wax, wind, will, win, well, weld, swept, twill, wept and went.

Handwriting----The students will be doing several "Ww" printing worksheets.  The students will also be printing several pages in their printing workbook.

Math----The students will continue learning about "money".  Many addition worksheets, addition story problem worksheets, and "Rocket Math" worksheets, will be done.  Then, the students will begin a unit on "subtraction".

Religion----In Chapter 27, the students will learn that we celebrate Jesus' new life and we give thanks for the new life Jesus brings to us.  The students will also be doing several pages in their "Growing in Love" Religion Workbook.

First Grade

Phonics----The students will learn about "long "i" spelled with "y"----as in the word---cry.

Reading----The students will be reading the story---"Little Bear's Friend".  Then, the booklet---"A Dream to Fly"---will be read.  Later, the students will read the story---"Busy Buzzy Bee".  Reading comprehension stories and worksheets will continue to be done.

English----The students will be learning about "commas"----in "dates" and in "places".

Spelling----The students will be taking their Unit 28 spelling word test on Monday, April 8th.  Then, Unit 20 will be started. In Unit 29, the students will be learning words have "long "i" spelled with "y".  Unit 29 spelling words are:  my, why, try, sky, shy, dry, fly, by, cry, fry, type, myself.  The extra words are:  down, every,and because.  Unit 20's spelling word test will be on Friday, April 12th.

Writing----The students will be writing their own story, using the characters from the "Busy Buzzy Bee" story.  The students will also be writing their own spelling word sentences.

Handwriting----The students will be printing many pages in their "Handwriting Workbook".

Math----The students will continue learning about "money". The students will also be learning about "Regrouping tens as ones" and "carrying". "Rocket Math" worksheets will continue to be done.

Religion----The students will continue their study in Chapter 24, that when we pray to God we show God that we love Him.  Then, in Chapter 27, the students will learn that Jesus rose to a new life.  The students will also be doing several pages in their "Growing in Love" Religion  Workbook.

Science----Everyone will continue learning about "Matter"---solids, liquids, and gases.  Then, "Mixtures" will be studied.  The "Time For Kids" magazine will also be read.
