What's Happening the Week of April 15th Through April 19th

Kindergarten

Phonics----The students will be learning about the sound of the letter "Qq"----keyword----quilt.
The students will be doing many "Qq" worksheets.

Reading----The students will be reading many "Qq" words, such as:  quilt, quill, quit, quint, quiz and quest.  The phonics booklet "Spin to Win"  will be read.  The students will be doing many reading worksheets and reading word lists.

Handwriting----The students will be printing the letter "Qq" .  The students will be printing pages in their "Handwriting Workbook".

Math----The students will continue their study on "subtraction".  Addition worksheets will continue to be done.

Religion----The students learn in Chapter 25, that "We Should Care About Others As Jesus Did".  Then, the students will do their last lesson in their "Growing in Love" Religion Workbook.   The students will learn that when we care about God's creations, we are keeping our promise of love for God.

First Grade

Phonics----The students will be learning the "ight" sound, as in the word "knight".

Reading----The students will be reading "The Busy Buzzy Bee" story. 

English----The students will continue their study of "commas"----in place names.  Then, the students will learn about "words that mean the same"---but are not spelled the same.

Spelling----A spelling word test over Unit 29 spelling words was given on Monday, April 15th.  Then, Unit 30 and Unit 31 will be done.  Unit 30 is a review unit over past spelling words from Units 25-29---so the students will be doing the workbook pages only.  The students will be tested over Unit 31 words which are: 
frog, frogs, tail, tails, week, weeks, gate, gates, wagon, wagons, jet, jets, mother, father, and more.  Unit 31 spelling word test will be on Friday, April 19th. 

Writing----The students will be writing their own spelling word sentences.  The students will also be writing their own stories about the characters from "The Busy Buzzy Bee" story .

Handwriting----The students will be printing pages in their "Handwriting Workbook".

Math----The students continue their study of "money".  Then, "opened and closed" figures and "cups and pints" will be studied.  The  students will continue doing addition and subtraction worksheets.  "Rocket Math" will also be done.

Religion----In Chapter 26, the students will learn that "We Care For God's Gifts of Creation".  The students will coninue doing lessons in their "Growing in Love" workbook.

Science---Everyone will be learning about "What Can Float?".  Then, the students will be learning about "Pushes and Pulls", "Simple Machines" and "Magnets".

Social Studies----The "Time For Kids" Magazine will be read.
