What's Happening the Week of April 29th Through May 3rd

Kindergarten

Phonics----The students will continue learning the "ck" sound, as in the word "duck".  Then, the students will learn the "sh" and the "th" sounds.  The students will also be reviewing the short "o" and short "u" sounds.

Reading----The students will be doing many reading worksheets.  The students will be reading the stories "Lad", "Mox's Shop", and "Gus the Duck".

Handwriting----The students will be printing many pages in their "Handwriting Workbook".

Math----The students will be learning about "order by weight", "hold more or holds less", "order by capacity", "counting by 2's", and "counting by 5's".  Many addition and subtraction worksheets will be done. 

Religion----In Chapter 28, the students will be reviewing "God's greatest gifts", "Families ---God wants us to spend time with our family", "Doing what Jesus wants us to do", "My Prayer Book", and "The Holy Spirit Came".  The students will also be learning about "Mary---Mother of God".

First Grade

Phonics----The students will be reviewing the sounds of "ai" and "ay".  Then, the students will learn the sounds of "ind", "ild", and "old".

Reading----The students will be reading the stories "Frog and Toad All Year", and the "Fishing Bears".  The students will also being reading many short stories and answering many comprehension questions.

English----The students will be learning about "Words that sound the same---but are spelled different and do not mean the same thing".  Then, many review worksheets will be done----review writing sentences, naming and action part, nouns and pronouns, verbs, days of the week, months, holidays, and name titles.

Spelling----The students will be learning "adding ed" and "adding ing" to words.  These spelling words will be in Units 33 and 34.  There will be no spelling test over these words.

Writing----The students will be writing their own stories and sentences---using the sentence rules.

Hnadwriting----The students will be printing pages in their "Handwriting Workbook".

Math----The students will continue their study of "regrouping".  Then, the students will be learning "cups, piunts, and quarts", and "centimeters". Many addition and subtraction worksheets will be done,

Religion----In Chapter 25, the students will learn about "Mary---Mother of God" and "saints".

Science----Everyone will be learning about "Energy---light and electricity".
