What's Happening the Week of April 22nd Through April 26th

Kindergarten


Phonics----The students will be learning the long vowel sounds.

Reading----The students will be reading many booklets, reading worksheets, and word lists.

Handwriting----The students will be printing many pages in their "Handwriting Workbook".

Math---The students will be learning about "vertical addition", "using ten-frames to subtract", "order by lenght", "compare by height", and "weight: heavier and lighter".  Addition and subtraction worksheets will be done.  "Rocket Math" worksheets will also be done.

Religion----In Chapter 26, the students will learn that "We celebrate that Jesus is our friend"and " Jesus shares his friendship with us and Jesus is always with us".

First Grade

Phonics----The students will be learning about the "ight" word family.

Reading----The students will be reading the stories "The Story of the Blue Bird" and "Frog and Toad All Year".  The booklet "The Long Flight" will be read.

English----The students will be learning about "commas in place names" and "words that mean the same".

Spelling----In Unit 32, the students will be learning words that contain the "long "o" sound".  The spelling words in Unit 32 are:  slow, grow, show, blow, snow, low, boat, coat, goat, road, yellow and shadow.  The extra words will be:  far, year, and does.  This week's spelling word test will be on Friday, April 26th.

Writing----The students will be writing their own stories using the characters from the reading stories----"The Story of the Blue Bird" and "Frog and Toad All Year",   The students will also be writing their own spelling word sentences.

Handwriting----The students will be printing many pages in their "Handwriting Workbook".

Math----The students will be learning about "regrouping tens and ones or borrowing in subtraction problems", "cups, pints, and quarts" and "weight".

Religion----The students will be learning in Chapter 28 that "Jesus grew up in a real family and he learned how to share and get along with others", "We learn how to be followers of Jesus", and "Making Choices to share God's love.

Science----Everyone will be learning about "Magnets", "Energy---Heat, Sound, Light, and Electricity".

Everyone will be reading the "Time For Kids" magazine.
