What's Happening the Week of January 7th Through January 11th

Kindergarten

Phonics----The students will continue their study of words that contain the letter "Kk"----keyword---kite.  Then, the students will learn words that contain the letter "Bb"----keyword----balloon.  Some "Bb" words are:  bib, bat, bag, ban, bass, and big.  The students will learn that the letter "Bb" is a consonant letter.

Reading----The studentds will be reading color words, words that contain the letters "Kk" and  "Bb", and phonics word lists.  The students will also be reading the booklet called, "The Big Trip".

Handwriting----The students will be printing the letters "Kk" and "Bb".  The students will also be printing phonics words that contain the letter "Kk".  The student's first and last name will also be printed.

Math----The students will learn about "bar graphs", "equal parts", "symmetry" "halves" and "fourths".

Religion----In Chapter 17, the students will learn that Jesus grew up in Nazareth.  Jesus did many of the same things we do with our family.  Jesus , Mary and Joseph are called the "Holy Family".

First Grade

Phonics----The students will learn about the sound of "er" as in "butter" and "ur" as in "purse".  The students will also learn about the final syllables "-ble", "-fle", "-ple", "-tle", and "-gle". 

Reading----The students will continue reading the story "On the Way to the Pond", and doing the workbook pages that go along with that story.  The students will be reading the booklet, "Let's Play"---contain the "Words to Remember" from the story "On the Way to the Pond".  Then, the students will read the story "Friends Forever".

English----The students will be reviewing nouns, prnouns, and verbs.  Then, the students will begin a new unit of study----"adjectives".

Spelling----In Unit 19, the students will learn words that contain "th" and "wh".  This week's spelling words are:  that, with, which, path, when, this, them, bath, whip, then, think and wheel.  The extra words are:  where, what and who.  This week's spelling test will be on Friday, January 11th.

Writing----The students will be writing their own story about the characters from "The Mitten" story.  The students will also be writing their own story about winter and about the plants.  The students will be writing their own story with the characters from their reading book story, "Friends Forever".

Handwriting----The students will be printing pages in their handwriting workbooks.

Math----The students will continue learning about "fact families".  The students will be doing many story problem workbook pages.  "Rocket Math" worksheets will continue to be done.

Religion----In Chapter 17, the students will learn that "The Church Welcomes New Members".  Baptism is th first sacrament that we receive.

Science----Everyone will continue learning about "plants".
