What's Happening the Week of January 28th Through February 1st

Kindergarten

Phonics----The Kindergarten boys and girls will be studying the sound of the letter "Cc"----keyword----cat.  The students will learn that the letter "Cc" is a consonant.  The students will be reading many words that contain the letter "Cc".  Many "Cc" worksheets will be done.

Reading----The students will be reading many words that contain the letter "Cc".  Some of the "Cc" words to be read are:  cut, can, cup, cast, scab, cuff, cross, crisp, craft, cost, clap, class, clam, cap, and cab.  The students will also learn the "c---k" rule.  Use "k"---when it is followed by the letter "e", "i", or "y".  Use "c"--when it is followed by the letter "a", "o", "y", or "any consonant".  The booklet "Zip" will also be read.

Hnadwriting----The students will be printing the letter "Cc" and their first and last name.

Math----The students will begin a unit of study---introducing them to the concept of "addition".  The students will continue learning to print numberals to "100".

Religion----The students will be doing several religion workbook pages in their "Growing in Love" religion book.  The students will continue to listen to stories from the Bible, during "Listening Time".

First Grade

Phonics----The students will be learning "ate" word family words---keyword ----gate.  Some "ate" words will be:  date, gate. late, skate, plate, slate, and Kate.

Reading----The students will be reading the story, "A Bed Full of Cats" and doing many workbook pages that go along with this story.  Then, the next story to be read will be---"Me on the Map".

English----The students will continue their study of "adjectives".  Then, the students will learn about "opposssites"----such as "happy" and "sad".

Spelling----The students will take their "Spelling Word Test" over Unit 21, on Monday,  January 28th.  Then, Unit 22,will be start.  In Unit 22, the students will learn about words that contain the long "o" sound.  Unit 22 spelling words are:  go, have, rope, so, joke, bone, hole, no, stove poke, hello, and alone.  The extra words are:  done, come, and some,  This week's spelling test will be on Thursday, January, 31st.

Writing----The students will be writing their own spelling word sentences.  The students will also be writing their own story about "cats", using the characters from their reading book story, "A Bed Full of Cats".  Then, the students will write their own sentences about a "noun", using "adjectives" to tell about that "noun".

Hnadwriting----The students will be printiing in their "Handwriting Workbook".

Math----The students will continue doing "Rocket Math" worksheets.  The students will also be learning about the terms"certain", "possible", and "impossible", "more likely", equally likely", and  "less likely". "Patterns" will also be re-introduced.  Many additon and subtraction worksheets will be done.

Religion----The students will be learning many religion lessons in their "Growing in Love" religion book.  At listening time, the students will be listening to Bible stories.

Science----Everyone will continue learning about "Living Things---Animals".  The students will be learning about of a "bird" and a "frog" life cycle.
