What's Happening the Week of February 4th Through February 8th

Kindergarten

Phonics----The Kindergarten students will continue their study of the letter "Cc" sound----keyword---cat.  Then, the letter "Ee" sound will be studied----keyword---elephant.  The students will learn that the letter "Ee" is a vowel.

Reading-----The students will be reading word lists, and the phonics booklet---"Zip".  The students will also read words containing the letter "Ee".  Some "Ee" words will be:  net, step, nest, mess, get, help, ten, bell, and leg.

Handwriting----The students will be printing the letters "Cc" and "Ee".  Many pages will be printed in the "Kindergarten Handwriting Workbook".  The students will continue printing their first and last name neatly.  Phonics words will also be printed.

Math----The students will contine learning about "addition". 

Religion----The students will be doing many lessons in their "Growing in Love" Religion Book.

First Grade

Phonics----The students will be learning about the diagraph "ai" and the diagraph "ay".  Then, the diagraphs "au" and "aw", will be studied.

Reading----The students will continue reading the story "A Bed Full of Cats".  Then, the story, "Me on the Map" will be read.  The booklet, "Baseball" will also be read.

English----The students will be reviewing "adjectives" and "nouns".  The students will be writing their own sentence , about a noun, that has to be described by adjectives.  Then, the students will label the English parts in the sentence---as "adjectives" and "nouns".

Spelling----Unit 22 spelling test, will be given on Monday, February 4th.  Then, Unit 23 spelling words will be started.  The spelling words in Unit 23 contain the long "e" sound.  The spelling words in Unit 23 are:  he, see, she, tree, me, feet, we, be, green, peek, three, and street.  The extra spelling words are:  good, back, and into.  Unit 23 spelling word test will be on Friday, February 8th.

Writing----The students will be writing their own Spelling word and English sentences.  The students will also be writing their own story, using the characters from "Me on the Map" story.

Handwriting----The students will be printing pages in their "Handwriting Workbook".

Math----The students will be learning about "temperature", "seasons", "choose a measuring tool", "comparing lengths", and "inches".  "Rocket Math" worksheets will continue to be done.

Religion----The students will be doing many lessons in their "Growing in Love" Religion Book.

Science----Everyone will continue their study of "living things----animals".  The students will be learning about "life cycles" and "habitats".  "Time For Kids" magazine will also be read.

Social Studies----The students will be doing several "Ground Hog Day" activities, on Monday, February 4th.

Cowboy Day----On. Wednesday, February 6th, the K-1 Classroom will celebrate "Cowday Day",  in honor of the letter "Cc".  The K-1 students may wear , to school, a cowboy outfit, jeans and cowboy shirt.  The students may also wear a cowboy hat, although , we will be making a cowboy hat in the classroom.  Many cowboy activities will be done on "Cowboy Day".
