What's Happening the Week of January 22nd Through January 25th

Friday, January 18th was the 100th Day of School.  Everyone in the K-1 Classroom enjoyed doing many activites and crafts centered around the theme of "100".  The students made "100th Day Hats", "100th Day Necklaces", "100th Day stars on the numberal 100", "100th Day dot marker pictures", listened to a story about the 100th day in school,  counted to 100, and wore "100th Day Shirts". A great time was had by all.  To add to the day's activites, the Students Council treated us to an " ice-cream sunday"===toppings and all!!  What a fun day!!!!

Kindergarten

Phonics----The Students will be learning the sound of the letter "Zz"----keyword----zebra.  The students will learn that the letter "Zz" is a consonant.

Reading----The students will be reading color words and "Zz" words.  Some "Zz" words will be:  fizz, fuzz, zip, zig, zap and buzz.  The students will also be reading the booklet----"Zip".

Handwriting----The students will continue writing the letter "Uu" and then learn how to print the letter "Zz".  The students will also print their first and last name.

Math----The students will be learning about the terms "more likely", "equal likely", and "less likely".  Then, then the students will start a unit on "joining----addition".

Religion----In Chapter 19, the students will learn that Jesus wants us to love one another.  Jesus wants us to show others we love them by being kind,  sharing, being fair, and to listening to one another.

First Grade

Phonics----The students will be learning the "diagraph ee" and "diagraph ea". 

Reading----The students will continue reading and doing workbook pages that go along with the story "The Fox and the Stork".  Then, the students will begin their fourth reader in the First Grade  reading series.  The students will be reading the story "A Bed Full of Cats".

English----The students will continue learning about "adjectives". The students will be learning about adjectives that end in "er" and "est".  Then, the students will learn about "opposites"----like "happy" and "sad".

Spelling----In Unit 21, the students will be learning words that contain the "long i".  The spelling words this week are:  time, like, kite, bike, white, five, drive, nine, hike, ride, write, and invite.  The extra spelling words are:  could, would, and two.  This week's spelling words test will be on Friday, January 25th.

Writing----The students will be writing their own stories using the characters from the stories "The Fox and the Stork" and "A Bed Full of Cats".  The students will also be writing their own spelling word sentences.

Hnadwriting----The students will be printing pages in their "Handwriting " workbook.

Math----The students will continue learning about "fractions"----one-fourth.  Then, the students will learn about the terms----"cerain", "possible", and "impossible".  "Rocket Math" worksheets will continue to be done.

Religion----In Chapter 19, the students will learn that "We Celebrate God's Forgiveness".  God is always ready to forgive us.

Science----Everyone will be learning that "plants live in many places".  Then the students will learn about "animals"----the different types of animals,and what animals need to live.

Social Studies----Everyone will continue learning about Marin Luther King, Jr.
