What's Happening the Week of December 3rd Through December 7th

OLOSS Christmas Musical will be on Sunday, December 9th, after the 10:00 am Mass.  The K-1 Students should dress in their Sunday best.  The students will all meet in the school cafeteria and enter the gym as a class.

Kindergarten

Phonics----The students will continue their study of "Ss" words.  Then, the next letter of study will be the letter "Ff" words----keyword----fish.

Reading----The students will be reading "Ss" words, word lists, and color words.  The booklet, "Stan's Pigs" will also be read.  Then, the students will be reading "Ff" words.  Some "Ff" words will be:  fan. fin, film, fog, flag, off, soft, fill, fist, flop, golf, lift, loft, sift, fast, and flip.

Handwriting----The students will be printing the letters "Ss" and "Ff".  The students will also be printing their first name and some phonics word sentences.

Math----The students will be learning about the terms fewest and most.  Then, the students will learn how to equalize a set.  Later, the students will identify and write the numbers 21 through 31.

Religion----In Chapter 14, the students will learn about "Advent".  Advent is the time to prepare for the birth of  God's Son--Jesus.  The "Growing In Love" Religion Book will also be done.

First Grade

Phonics----The students will be learning about the rule---"o consonant e"----keyword---hose--- and "u consonant e"----keyword----cube.  Then, the students will learn about the rule---"i consonant e"----keyword---dime---and "e consonant e"---keyword----concrete.

Reading----The students will be reading the story---"Did You See Chip?".  Through this story the students will be introduced to the "ar" sound.  The booklet, "Carmen Sells Stars", will also be read.

English----The students be learning about pronouns and verbs.  Add "s" to a verb when it tells about a pronoun that names one.  Then, the students will learn about verbs with "ed" .  Add "ed" to some verbs to tell about the past.  Later, the students will learn about when to use "is" or "are".  Use "is" in a sentence with a noun that names one.  Use "are" in a sentence with a noun that names more than one.

Spelling----In Unit 16, the students will be introduced to words with "Double Final  Consonants".  The spelling words this week are:  will, egg, grass, tell, miss, well, and guess.  The extra words are:  look, little, and very.  This week's spelling test will be on Friday, December 7th.

Handwriting----The students will be printing the letters "h" and "I".  The students will also be printing pages about "Mary, Mother of Jesus", "Advent", "Advent Wreath", and "Christmas".

Writing----The students will be writing their own story about "How can we share God's Love ----Jesus' light---with others?"  The students will also be writing their own story using the characters from the story,"Did You See Chip?".  Spelling word sentences will also be written.  The students must remember to use the sentence rules when writing their stories or sentences.  The sentence rules are:  begin each sentence with a capital letter.  A sentence must also have a naming and a action part, make sense, and end with an end mark.

Math----The students will be reviewing "odd and even numbers", and  "counting by 2's and 5's".  Then, the students will begin a unit on "subtraction".  The students will learn how to read a subtraction sentence.  "Rocket Math" will continue to be done.  "Math Facts" flash cards will be studied.

Religion----In Chapter 14, the students will learn about "Advent".  In the "Advent" season , we are getting ready for the coming of God's Son Jesus.  "Advent" means coming.  The "Growing In Love" Religion Book will also be done.

Social Studies----Everyone will  learn about "Work and Jobs", "Goods and Services" "Putting Thingd Into Order", and "People With Great Ideas".
