What's Happening the Week of December 10th Through December 14th

It was so nice to see such a great turn-out for the Our Lady of the Snows Christmas Musical.  All the students did a great job !!  I was especially proud of our K-1 Class. 

Kindergarten

Phonics----The students will continue reading words that contain the letter "Ff".  Then, the next letter of study will be the letter "Rr"--keyword---rabbit.  The students will be reading "Rr" words.

Reading----The students will be reading "Ff" words and "Rr" words.  Some Rr" words will be:  rat, rot, rip, ram, rag, rap, ran, trip, trim, trap, raft, ramp, grass, and gram.  Color words will also be read.  The booklet, "Stan's Pigs" will be read and then taken home as an homework assignment.

Handwriting----The students will be printing phonics words and phonics word sentences.  The letters "Ff" and "Rr" will also be printed.

Math----The students will be identifying and writing number from 26-31, comparing number to 31, ordering numbers to 31, tally marks and tally charts.

Religion----The students will learn in Chapter 14 about "Christmas"---Christmas is the time we celebrate the birth of Jesus.  The students will learn in their "Growing In Love" Religion Book, that we learn about God's world through our gift of our five senses.

First Grade

Phonics----The students will be learning about the "sh", "ch", and "qu" sounds.  Words containing the letters "Xx" and "Yy" will also be read.

Reading----The students will continue the worksheets that go along with the story, "Did You See Chip?".  Then, the students will read the story, "Tomas Rivera".   The booklet, One Night" will also be read.

English----The students will continue their study of verbs that end with "ed".  Then the verbs "is", "are", "was", and "were" will be introduced.

Spelling----In Unit 16, the students will be learning words that have the "sh" and "ch" sound.  The  Spelling  Words this week are:  ship, chin, much, chop, wish, shop, and shoe.  The extra words are:  how, now, and our.  This week's spelling test will be on Friday, December 14th.

Handwriting-----The students will be printing pages in their Handwriting Book.  The letter "n" will be printed.

Writing----The students will be writing their own story about the birth of Jesus, a story using the characters from the reading story "Tomas Rivera", and their own spelling words sentences.

Math----The students will continue their study of "subtraction".  "Rocket Math" subtraction papers will also be done.

Religion----In Chaptet 14, the students will learn that at Christmas the Church celebrates the birth of God's Son, Jesus. In the "Growing In Love" book, the students will learn that we should all share and care for ourself and for others, and that God has given us our own special gifts.  There is a right way and a wrong way to use God's gifts.  The right way is to share the gifts that God has given to you.

Social Studies----Everyone will be learning about "Putting Things Into Order", "People With Great Ideas",and "Using the Calendar".  "Time For Kids" magazine will also be read.
