What's Happening the Week of November 12th Through November 16th

Kindergarten

Phonics----The students will continue their study of words made with the letter "Mm"---keyword---monkey.  Then, the next letter of study will be the letter "Ii"---keyword----"Inch" and the reading of "Ii" phonics words. The students will learn that the letter "Ii" is a vowel.

Reading----The students will be reading phonics words.  Phonics words lists will be sent home, to be practiced.  A booklet called "Hop on Mop" will also be read at school and sent home to be practiced.  After, a homework reading assignmet is sent home to be practiced, each student will be asked to read that reading assignment to me.  Color words will continue to be read.

Handwriting----The letters "Mm" and "Ii" will be printed.  Each Kindergartener's first name will also be printed.

Math----The students will be learning about the terms "before, between, and after", "left and right", and :writing and identifying the numbers 13 and 14. 

Religion----The students will learn in Chapter 12, that "We Learn About God With Our Friends".  All the things that you like to do with your friends are ways to learn more about yourself and to discover things about God's world.

First Grade

Phonics----The students will be studying words that contain the letters "Uu", "Ww", and "a consonant e".  The "vc/cv"[vowel-consonant/consonant-vowel] rule will be studied.  The students will also be learning the "sh" sound through their reading and workbook pages that going along with their next reading story, "Fun With Fish".

Reading----The students will continue reading and doing workbook pages from the story, "Try Your Best". Next, a booklet called, "Just One More" will be read---containing the "Words to Remember" from the story "Try Your Best".  Then, the story, "Fun With Fish" and the booklet, "At the Fish Shop" will be read.

English---The students will contiue their study of words that mean the same thing.  Then, the students will be reviewing past items of study---nouns, special nouns, pronouns, naming and action paarts of a sentence, telling and question sentences, and sentence rules.  Later, the next unit of study will be "verbs".

Spelling----In Unit 14, the students will be learning words that contain the "cl, fl, and sl" sounds.  This week's spelling words are:  flag, club, flap, slip, clap, sled, and flower.  The extra spelling words are:  said, her, and here.  This week's spelling test will be on Friday, November 16th.

Writing----The students will be writing their own spelling word sentences and their own stories.  As the students are writing their own sentences and their own stories, they are to make sure that each sentence
they write is a complete sentence----each sentence has to have a naming and a action part.  Each sentence must also follow the sentence rules---begin with a capital letter, make sense, and end with an end mark.

  To help the students spell unknown words correctly, I have supplied each student with their own "Spelling Book" or student dictionary, that contain words that could used in their writing. If a student asks me to spell a word, I ask them ----"What sound does your word begin with"?  Then, the students needs to look their word up in their "Spelling Book/ dictionary".  I believe this will help each student become familiar with the correct spelling of more words.

Handwriting----The students will be printing the prayers----"Glory to the Father",  "Simple Act of Hope ", and "Simple Act of Love" prayer.  The students will also be printing sentences about the seven "Days of Creation", "Your Church", "The Catholic Church", "The Bible", and "Noah". 

Math----The students will be studying "expanded form"----25=20 +5.  The terms---"one more, one less", "before, between, and after" will be studied.  "Comparing numbers" will also be studied.

Religion----In Chapter 12, the students will learn that "The Church Serves".

Social Studies----Everyone will be learning about "Thanksgiving",  through the reading of booklets, stickers, color sheets, making a Thanksgiving bracelet, and the reading of the magazine---"Time For Kids".
