What's Happening the Week of October 22nd Through October 26th

Our K-1 Field Trip was a big success.  A big thank you to everyone who helped drive.  The students had a wonderful time and loads of fun!!!

Kindergarten

Phonics----The students will continue their study of the letter "Aa" and "Aa" words.  The students have learned that the letter "Aa" is a vowel---keyword---apple.  Then, the students will study the letter "Nn"---keyword---nest---and "Nn" words.  The students will learn that the letter "Nn" is a consonant.

Reading----The students will continue reading color words and words made up of the letters and sounds studied so far.  The letters studied so far are:  "Ll", "Oo", "Gg", "Hh", "Tt", "Pp", and "Aa".  The students will also be reading the booklet "Hot, Hot, Hot".

Handwriting----The students will be printing their first name and the the letters "Aa" and "Nn".

Math----The students will continue working with the numbers 1-10.  The students will also be learning about the ordinal numbers "first through tenth".  Number patterns and the terms "inside and outside" will be studied.

Religion----In Chapter 10, the students will learn that God helps us to discover His world by giving us our five senses.

First Grade

Phonics----The students will be studying words made from the letters "Mm" and "Ee".  The students will also be studying words that end with the letters "ng".

Reading----The students will read a booklet called "Did You See It?"----containing the "Words to Remember" from "Space Pup" story.  Then, the students will read the story "Where Do Frog Come From?".

English----The students will continue their study of "nouns".  The students will be learning about special nouns----nouns that name special people, animals or places and start with a capital letter,   Then, the students will learn the when you are talking about yourself and another person, you name the other person first and then call yourself "I", last.

Spelling----The students will be taking their spelling test over Unit 14 words on Monday, October 22nd.  Then, Unit 15--"st" words will be started.  The spelling words in Unit 15 are:  nest, fast, stop, must, step, best, and stick.  The extra words are:  your, their, and other.  The spelling test over Unit 15 words will be on Friday, October 26th.

Handwriting----The  students will be printing the letters "w", "X", "v", and "O".

Writing----The students will be writing about a "Haunted House" and a story using the characters from the story "Where Do Frogs Come From?".

Math----The students will be learning about the "ones" and the "tens" place.  The students will continue doing "Rocket Math" worksheets.

Religion----In Chapter 9, the students will continue to learn that Jesus died and rose from the dead.  Jesus showed His love for us by dying on the cross.  Then, in Chapter 10, the students will learn that Jesus Christ promised to send the "Holy Spirit".

Social Studies----Everyone will learn about "Weather", "Maps", and "Using Directions".  The "Time For Kids" magazine will also be read.
