What's Happening the Week of September 10th Through September 14th

Deanna will continue to enjoy her reign as our classroom's "Star Student" this week.  When a child is chosen as a "Star Student" , their classroom job is to be the line leader for the two weeks of their "Star Student" reign.
On Tuseday, September 11th, at 2:00, our school will be celebrating Grandparents Day.  Hope to see lots of Grandparents that day!!!

Kindergarten

Phonics---The students will continue their study of the letter "Gg"--keyword---goat.  The students will be learning how to sound out the word----l--o--g, by wearing a letter vest containing the letters "l", "o", and "g".  As the students wear these letter vests, I will point at them, and they are to make the sound of the letter that they are wearing.  This will help the students realize that when letter sounds are put together, the letter sounds make a word.

The next letter of study will be the letter "Hh"--keyword---hat.  Then, the word   h--o--g  will be sounded out.

Reading----The students will continue reading color words, and the words "log" and "hog".

Handwriting----The students will be printing the letters "Gg" and "Hh". The students will also continue to print their first name.

Math----The students will continue their study of the number "4".  Then, the number "5" will be printed.The students will continue with the unit on sorting---sorting by shape and size.  Then, the students will learn that a square and a rectangle has "4" sides and "4" corners.

Religion----In Chapter 4, the students will learn that God gives us the gift of land because He loves and cares for us.  God wants us to take care of His gift of land.

First Grade

Phonics----The students will study the letter and the letter's sound of the letters---"Aa", "Zz", and "Ss".  The  students will also be learning about the suffix "s"---when added to a noun making the noun mean more than one.

Reading----The students will continue reading and doing workbook  pages from the story, "Jack and Rick".  Through this story the students are studying the "ack" and "ick" word families. The booklet," Mack and Sam" will be read.  Then, the students will be reading the story, "Todd's Box".  Through this story the students will be studying the "ot" and "op" word families.

English----The students will be learning about question sentences----ask something and end with a question mark.  Then, the students will have to decide  "What a Sentence Is?"---a telling or a question sentence.

Spelling----In Unit 7, the students will be learning words that contain the short "o" sound.  This week's spelling words are:on, got, fox, box, pop, not,  and  block.  This week's extra words are:  was, I, and  you.  This week's spelling test will be on Friday, September 14th.

Writing----The students will be writing their own story, using the characters from the reading story, "Jack and Rick".  The students will also be writing their own spelling word sentences,

Handwriting----The students will be printing the letters "m", "N", "a", "B", and "g".  The students will also be printing several pages in their "Learning Our Catholic Faith" workbook.

Math----The students will continue working with the ordinal numbers---first through tenth; the number terms before, between, and after;  and comparing numbers---less than, greater than, and equal to.  The students will continue working with addition problems and addition "Rocket Math". 

Religion----In Chapter 4, the students will learn that Jesus worked among the people.  Jesus treated everyone equally.

Social Studies----Everyone will be learning about "Charts", "Families and Change", "Thomas Edison", "Our Country", and "Sorting into Groups".
