What's Happening September 4th Through September 7th

Deanna will begin her reign as "Star Student", today, September 4th.  Deanna's regin as "Star Student" goes through September 14th.

It was so nice to see everyone at the church picnic!!  What a nice turn out on such wonderful day!!

Kindergarten----The students will continue their study of the letter "Oo"---keyword--octopus.  The students have learned that "Oo" is a vowel.  Then, the students will learn the consonant letter "Gg"---keyword---goat.  The students will be learning how to sound out a word, by putting together the three letter sounds that have been learned---l--o--g= log.

Reading----The students will continue reading color words.  The next color word to be read is the color word "yellow".  The students will also read the word "log".

Math----The students will be learning about the shape of a rectangle, the color and color word yellow, and the number 4.  The students will be learning how to print the number 4 by learning a "4" poem----Down and over, and down some more, this is the way we make a "4".  The students will also be learning about sorting according to size, color and shape.  Later. this week the number "5" will be studied and printed.

Handwriting----The students will be printing the letters "Oo" and "Gg".  Each student will continue printing their first name.

Religion----In Chapter 3, the students will learn that God gives us water because He loves and cares for us.

First Grade

Phonics----The students will be studying the letter and the letter sound for the letters----the short "Ii" sound as in the word "igloo", the long "Ii" sound as in the word "ivy", the "Ll" sound--keyword--lion, and the "Aa" short and long vowel sound--as in "apple" and "acorn" .

Reading----The student will coninue to read the story the "Ants" and do the workbook pages that go along with the "Ants" story.  The booklet, "Tim and Pam" will be read.  Then, the story, "Jack and Rick" will be read.

English----The students will continue learning about telling sentences.  A telling sentence begins with a capital letter, has a naming and action part. makes sense,  tells something, and ends with a period.  Then, the students will learn about a question sentence.  A qusetion sentence begins with a capital letter, has a naming and action part, makes sense, asks something, and ends with a question mark.

Spelling----Unit 6 is a review unit.  The students will be reviewing the past short "a" and short "i" spelling words.  This week's spelling words are:  an, bad, can, had, cat, ran, in, pig, did, sit, six, and big.  This week's spelling test will be on Friday, September 7th.

Writing----The students will be creating their own story using the characters from the "Ants" story.  The students will also be writing their own spelling word sentences.  When the students write their story and spelling word sentences they are to remember the sentence rules----begin the sentence with a capital letter, have a naming and action part, makes sense, and has an end mark.

Handwriting----The students will be printing the letters "m", "N", "a" "B", and "j".

Math----The students will contine working with addition problems through worksheets and "Rocket Math".  The students will also be  learning about one fewwer, one more, numbers that come before, between, and after, and comparing numbers that are less than<, more than>, or equal to=.

Religion----In Chapter 3, the students will learn that Jesus grew up in a family---the "Holy Family".  The "Holy Family" prayed to God together.

Social Studies----Everyone will be learning about another "American Symbol"---the "Liberty Bell".  The students will be coloring and making the "Liberty Bell".  The students will also receive a "Liberty Bell" necklace.  Then, the students will be learning about the planet "Earth" and what is a "Globe".
