What's Happening the Week of August 27th Through August 31st

Aly is enjoying her reign as "Star Student".  Aly's reign as "Star Student" will continue this week.  Then, I will send home a note telling who will be our classroom's next "Star Student".  Each student's reign as "Star Student" lasts for two weeks.  Please send your child's family and pet pictures when you receive the note telling you that your child is the next "Stat Student". Thanks!!

Kindergarten

Phonics----The students will continue their study of the letter "Ll"---keyword---lion.  Then, the students will begin their study of the letter "Oo"---keyword---octopus.  The students will learn that the letter "Oo" is a vowel.  Many "Oo" phonics worksheets will be done.

Reading----The students will continue to learn  how to read and spell color words.

Handwriting----The students will continue printing the letter "Ll".  Then, the letter "Oo" will be printed.  The students will be reminded to sit up straight when printing, hold the printing paper with their other hand, and print slowly and on the line----no---ghost floatly letters that are off of the line!!!  The students will continue to print their first name.

Math----The students will continue to practice printing the numbers 1-2.  The, the students will learn how to print the number "3".  Number "3's" poem is-----Around the tree, and around the tree, this is the way we make a "3". 
The students will also be learning the "square" shape and the color "blue".
The students will continue to learn how to sort by the same shape and the same color, and the same size .

Religion----The students will continue to learn ,in Chapter 2, that God put the sun, moon, and the stars in the sky to help us see, because God cares and loves us.  Then, in Chaptet 3, the students will learn that God gave us water to live.

First Grade

Phonics----The First Grade students will be reviewing the sound of the letters---"Pp", the short and the long vowel sound of the letter "Ii", "Ll", and the vowel "Aa".

Reading----The First Grade students will continue their study and worksheets that go along with the story of "Sam and the Bag".  The students will also be reading the booklets---"Al and Max" and "Sam".  Many poems worksheets will be read, along with other phonics worksheets.  The students are also learning how to read and spell number words.

English----The First Grade students will continue to learn that a sentence has two parts---a naming part and the action part.  The students will be learning about the action part.  The students will also be learning about telling sentences----they tell something, make sense, begin with a capital letter, and end with a period. 

Spelling----In Unit 5, the students will learn short "Ii" words.  The spelling words this week are:  in, pig, did, sit, six,  and  big.  The extra words are:  to, of,  and  is.  If a student get the extra words correct, he/she get to pick out a prize from the treasure chest.  The week's spelling test will be on Friday, August 31st.

Handwriting----The students will be printing the letters---"A", "a", "B', "m", and  "N".  The students will also be printing pages about God and God's creation.

Writing----The students will be creating their own stories using the characters from the "Sam and the Bag" story.  The students will also be writing their own spelling word sentences.  The students will be getting practice using the English sentence rules.

Math----The First Grade students will continue learning how to read number words --six through nine.  The students will continue working with additon, though addition worksheets and "Rocket Math".  The students will also be reminded,of the fact, that numbers come in a certain order.  The concept of one more and one less will be learned.

Religion----The First Grade students will continue to learn that there are "3" persons in God---God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.  Then, in Chapter 3, the students will learn that Jesus grew up in a family---the "Holy Family".  The students will learn that the "Holy Family" obeyed God the Father and prayed to God.

Social Studies----Everyone will continue the study of our "American Symbols".  Everyone will be making the "Statue of Liberty" crown and torch.  The students will be wearing their "Statue of Liberty" crown and torch to lunch .  Other  "American Symbols" to be studied will be "Tte Bald Eagle", "The Liberty Bell, and "Uncle Sam".  Then, the students will begin a study of the "Earth" and the globe, charts, and maps.
