What's Happening the Week of April 2nd Through April 4th

Every student needs to bring to school be Wednesday, April 4th, one dozen candy- filled eggs for our Easter Egg Hunt.  Thanks for your help!

Kindergarten


Phonics----The students will continue reading "sh" words.  Some "sh" words to be read are.  shelf, shell, crush, crash, cash, flash, flesh, flush, she, trash, wish, swish, shot, shut, and shop.  Then, the next sound to be studied will be the "th" sound as in the word "thimble".  Some "th" words to be read will be:  the, that, than, this, then, them, bath, moth, path, and with.  The short vowel sound of "o" will be reviewed.

Reading----The students will be reading several phonics books----"I Can See"  and "Mox's Shop".  Several pages in the students "Reading and Writing" Journal, will be done.  The students will also be reading many reading worksheets.

Handwriting----The students will be printing pages in their handwriting workbooks.

Math----The students will continue the study of subtraction. 

Religion----In Chapter 21, the students will learn about "The Three Days" in our church year----Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter.

First Grade

Phonics----The students will be studying about "wild colt" words.  "Wild Colt" words are small words that contain the letters "i" or "o" followed by two consonants, then the vowels make the long vowel sound instead of the shrot vowel sound as in the words---wild and colt.  Some other "wild colt" words are:  most, find, kind, mind, mild, child, and wild.  The "tch" sound will be reviewd.  Then, the "ph" sound will be studied.

Reading----The students will be reading the story, "Fishing Bears", pp. 68-91.

English----The students will be reviewing----sentence rules, names of holidays and the names of the days of the week, special nouns, pronouns, verbs, and contractions.

Spelling----The students had a spelling test over Unit 32, today, Monday, April 2nd.  Since this is a short school week, the next spelling unit will not be started until after the Easter break.  The students will be doing other spelling worksheets this week.

Handwriting----The students will be printing pages in their "Handwriting " workbook.

Writing----The students will be writing stories in their "Reading and Handwriting" Journal.

Science----Everyone will be learning that our planet Earth has freash water and salt water.  Then, the unit about "Matter and Energy" will be started.  The students will also be learning about the life cycle of a frog, by studying their "Time For Kids" magazine.
