What's Happening the Week of March 26th Through March 30th

Kindergargen

Phonics----The students will continue their study of long vowel sounds and the "ck" sound---keyword---duck.    Some "ck" words to be studied are:  duck, block, luck, truck, crack, clock, back, lock, trick, quick, black, neck, stick, quack and deck.  Then, the sound of "sh"---keyword---shark, will be studied.  Some "sh" words to be studied will be:  fish, trash, crash, flash, she, wish, shot, shed, dish, ship, crush, flash, shelf, swish, shut, cash, flush, shell, and shop.

Reading----The students will be reading word lists, word family words, "Reading Workbook" words and worksheets, and phonics booklets.  The phonics booklets are called----"My Pal Bo", and "Will She Tell?".  Nursery Rhymes will also be read.

Handwriting----The students will be printing their first and their last name, word family words, and doing pages in their handwriting workbook.

Math----The students will be learning about weight---heavier and lighter, order by weight, and starting a unit on subtraction.  The students will also be reviewing telling time by the hour, patterns and money.  Addition problems worksheets will also be done.  Later, the students will be introduced to "Rocket Math", which will be done in the First Grade Math class.  "Rocket Math" is done by giving each student a addition worksheet and the students have only so much time to finish the worksheet.

Religion----In Chapter 28, the students will review that God made all things, families have special ways to share God's love, and we should do what Jesus wants us to do. Then "Holy People" will be discussed---Mary, The Holy Family, Jesus, and The Saints.  The students will be given a "Prayer" booklet, in which many prayers will be read and prayed.

First Grade

Phonics----The students will be studying the sound of "ow" as in the word "grow".  The students will also be studying the sounds of "ew" as in the word "cashew",and "ph" as in the word "phone".  The review of the sound "tch" as in the word "catch", will also be studied.

Reading-----"Frog and Toad All Year", pp. 38-56, and "Fishing Bears", pp. 68-91, will be read.  The booklet, "Frog and Mouse", will also be read.  Tresure words and flash cards, will also be read.

English----The students will be reviewing many of the past items learned in their First Grade English
 workbook, throughout this past school year.  Some of the items to be reviewed are:  sentence rules. exclamation marks, titles in people's names, book titles, months, holidays, commas, naming part of a sentence, the action part of a sentence, nouns, special nouns, pronouns, verbs, periods, question marks, and capitalization rules.

Spelling----The students had a spelling test over Unit 31.  Now, Unit 32 spelling words will be studied.  In Unit 32, the students will study more long "O" words.  The spelling words this week are:  slow, grow, show, blow, snow, boat, coat, low, goat, and road.  The bonus words are:  yellow, shadow, far, year, and does.  This week's spelling test will be on Friday, March 30th.

Handwriting----The students will doing printing pages in their handwriting workbook.

Writing----The students will be writing stories in their "Reading and Writing" Journal.  The students will also be writing their own story using the characters from the "Frog and Toad All Year" story.

Science----Everyone will continue to learn about "Rocks and Soil".  Then, "Air" and "Water", on our planet Earth, will be studied.

Bible Story----"Jesus Rides into Jerusalem", the people waved palm leaves and shout "Hosanna" as Jesus rode by on a donkey.
