What's Happening the Week of March 12th Through March 16th

Everyone enjoyed "The Cat in the Hat" Day.  A special thanks goes out to Mary Ann  Eickhoff, for all her help in making this day so special.  Mary Ann Eickhoff made Dr. Suess' " oobleck", and "Thing 1" and "Thing 2" cupcakes.  "The Cat in the Hat" movie was watched, many Dr. Suess books were read, and many Dr. Suess worksheets were done.  Parents, thank you so much for dressing your child in their "Cat in the Hat" outfit.  Everyone looked so cute.   The day was a big success!!!

Kindergarten

Phonics----The boys and girls will continue their study of the letter "Ww"----keyword----wagon.  The students will be reading some "Ww" words.  The "Ww" words will be:  web, west, twin, wet, wax, wind, win, wig, well, weld, swept, will, twill. wept, and went.  Then, the next letter of study will be the letter "Qq"----keyword----quilt.  Some "Qq" words will be:  quilt, quill, quint, quit, quiz, quest, and squid.

Reading----The students will be reading word lists, word family words, and a phonics booklet called, "Spin to Win.  "Nursery Rhymes" will also be read.

Handwriting----The students will be printing their first and their last name, word family words, the letters "Ww" and "Qq", and pages in their "Handwriting Workbook".

Math----The students will be reviewing telling time to the hour, seasons, and  less time and more time.  Then, a unit on measurement will be started.  The students will be comparing objects by size, and length.  Addition and time to the hour worksheets will be done.  Printing numbers from 1-100 will also be done.

Religion----In Chapter 25, the students will learn that Jesus wants us to care about other as He did.  Jesus wants us to help people who are in need, poor, sick, or lonely.

First Grade

Phonics----The students will be reviewing words that contain "o--consonant---e".  Then, the students will study the "ight" word family----keyword----knight.

Reading----The students will be reading the last story in the fourth First Grade reading book, "Busy Buzzy Bee", pp. 216-243.  Then, the students will be given the fifth  reader in the First Gade reading book series, Gather Around.  The first story, in this new reading book, will be---"The Story of a Blue Bird", pp. 8-30.  "Treasure Words" and sight words will also be read.

English----The students will be learning about commas with place name, and words that sound the same, but are not spelled the same, and do not mean the same thing---such as "road" and "rode".

Spelling----In Unit 30, the students will be reviewing past spelling words from units 25-29.  The spelling words that will be on this week's spelling test are:hope, bit, my, read, wake, note, dry, stay, sail, shy, need, and smile.  This week's spelling test will be on Friday, March 16th.

Handwriting----The students will be printing pages in their "Handwriting Workbook".

Writing----The students will be writing their own story with the characters from "Little Bear's Friend" and "Busy Buzzy Bee" stories.  The students will also write their own stories in their "Reading and Handwriting" journal.

Science----Everyone will be studying about "places where animals and plants live"---"Rainforest" and "Oceans".  Then, there will be a review of all the places that have been studied----"forests", "deserts", "rainforests" and the "oceans".

Social Studies----The students will be learning that March is "Women's History Month".  The students will be reading about "Famous First" that women have done, by reading in their "Time For Kids" magazine.

Bible Stories----Everyone will be learning about the "Bible Story"----"Jesus Teaches His Diciples to Pray".

Crafts----Everyone will be making a St. Patrick's Day hat, and a foam "Leprechaun".

We will be celebrating St. Patrick's Day on Friday, March 16th.  Your child may wear green clothes, jeans, and St. Patrick's Day items on that day.
