What's Happening the week of February 6th Through February 10th

Kindergarten

Phonics----The students will continue their study of "Yy" words.  Then, the students will study words that contain the letter "Dd"--keyword----dog.  The students will learn that the letter "Dd" id a consonant.  Some "Dd" words that will be studied are:  dog, doll, disk, sad, desk, drum, had, slid, hid, mud, red, rid, stand, sand, said, and did.

Reading----The students will be reading word lists, word families, and a phonics booklet.

Math----The students will continue their study of money----dimes and quarters.  Addition and dot-to-dot worksheets will also be done.

Handwriting----The students will print their first and their last name, and the letters "Yy" and "Dd".  The students will also begin printing in their "Handwriting Workbook".

Religion----The students will continue learning in their "Growing in Love" religion book.  The students will learn that God made us to live in a family and God made us to grow in His love and to take care of His creation---our world and others.

First Grade

Phonics----The students will be studying the sound of "ea" as in the word "wheat".  The students will be learning the "eat" word family words.

Reading----The students will continue reading the story, "At Home Around the World", pp. 66-89.  Then, the students will read the story "Tell Me a Story", pp.8-116. Treasure Words will also be read.

English----The students will be reviewing adjectives that end with "er" and "est".  Then, the students will be reviewing nouns,  pronouns, contractions, and adjectives.  Next, sentence rules will be studied.  The students will be learning that all sentences start with a capital letter.  A sentence ends with an end mark.  A telling sentence ends with a period and a question sentence ends with a question mark.

Spelling----The students had their Unit 24 Spelling Test on Monday, February 6th.  The next unit of study is Unit 25.  In Unit 25, the students will be learning words that contain a long vowel sound.  Unit 25 spelling words are:  same, line, stone, smile, note, side, wake, woke, wide, wave.  The bonus words are:  beside, space, love, any, and many.  The spelling test for Unit 25 words will be on Friday, February 10th.

Handwriting-----The students will be printing the letter "r" and "S".  Two of the "Ten Commandments will also be printed.

Writing----The students will be writing their own story about their own house that they will be drawing and coloring.  The students will be describing their house using "adjectives".  The students will also need to use the correct sentence rules when writing their house description.

Social Studies-----Everyone will be reading the K-1 magazine "Time For Kids".  They will be learning about the Chinese New Year.  It is the year of the "Dragon".  The students will be doing a worksheet that goes along with the "Chinese New Year".  The students will be putting a dragon puzzle together.  The students will be learning about Abraham Lincoln.  The the students will be learning that Abraham Lincoln is on the penny and the five dollar bill.

Science----Everyone will be learning about "How a Buttertly Grows?" and "How a Frog Grows?".

Crafts----Everyone will be making "Valentine" bookmarks, a foam heart, sticker scenes,  a "Valentine" mail -bag, and cards.
