Kindergarten
Phonics----The students will contiue their study of words that contain the letter "Yy". Some "Yy" words are: yam, yak, yell, yap, yes, yelp, yen, and yet. The students will learn that the letter "Yy" is a consonant---keyword---yarn. Then, the students will begin their study words that contain the letter "Dd". Some "Dd" words will be: dog, doll, disk, sad, desk, drum, said, and, had, did, slid, hid, mud, red, rid, stand, and sand. The students will learn that the letter "Dd" is a consonant----keyword for the letter "Dd" is ----dog.
Reading----The students will read word lists, word families, and phonics booklets.
Math----The students will continue learning about ----money. The students will learn that a coin has two sides---a head side and a tail side, The students will learn about the value of a penny, nickel, dime, and a quarter. The students will learn how to count money. Each Kindergarten student was given a small change purse, in which each students is to keep several of each kind of coin. Then, the coins will be observed and counted each day.
Handwriting----The students will be printing their first and their last name, and the letters "Yy" and "Dd".
Religion----The students will continue learning through their "Growing In Love" religion book. The students will learn that God made us to be a family.
First Grade
Phonics----The students will learn about the digraph "ai", and a sound that "y" makes at the end of a word------"a long e" as in jelly.
English----The students will continue their study of adjectives. Then, the students will review the naming part and the action part of a sentence, nouns and pronouns.
Spelling----This week, the students will be reviewing some of the spelling words that were Units 19-23. The spelling words are: path, whip, brave, gave, bike, nine, home, bone, tree, green, me, and we. This week's spelling test will be on Thursday, February 2nd.
Handwriting----The students will be printing the letter "r", the "After Meal Prayer", "Holy Mary Prayer", and a page on the "Ten Commandments".
Writing----The students will be writing their own story with the characters from "Me on the Map" story. The students will also be writing spelling word sentences.
Science----Everyone will be learning about "insects", "how animals grow", and "how a butterfly grows".
