What's Happening the Week of February 13th Through February 17th

Kindergarten

Phonics----The students will continue their study of "Dd" words.  Then, the students will study words that start with the letter "Vv"---keyword---vest.  Some "Vv" words will be:  vent, vest, vet, have, and van.

Reading----The students will be reading word lists, word families, and phonics booklets.

Handwriting----The students will be printing their first and their last name, the letter "Dd", the letter "Vv", and word family words.

Math----The students will continue the study of money.  Then, the students will learn about equal parts, equal symmetry, and halves.  Additon worksheets, number worksheets, and dot-to-dot worksheets will also be done.

Religion----The students will learn in Chapter 22, that we belong to the church family.  We are members of God's family, the church.  We become members of God's family, the church, at baptism.

First Grade

Phonics----The students will learn about the soft "C" sound as in the word "ice".   Then, the students will learn about the sounds of "oi" as in "oil", "oy" as in "boy", "ou" as in round, and "ow" as in down.

Reading----The students will continue the worksheets that go along with the story "Tell Me a Story", pp. 98-116.  Then, the students will read the story, "My Robot", pp. 124-143".  Through this story, the students will be introduced to the soft "c" sound.  The students will also be reading "Treasure Words".

English ----The students will be reviewing "How to Write the Correct Sentence"---using the sentence rules--capital letter at the beginning of a sentence, and an end mark at the end of a sentence.  Telling sentences end with a period, and asking sentences end with a question mark.  Exclamation sentences will be studied.  Then, the students will learn that titles before a person's name begin with a capital letter, and usually ends with a period.

Spelling----The students will be studying words in Unit 26.  The spelling words in Unit 26 will be ' A Mixed Vowel Review".  The spelling words this week are:  mad, made, hop, hope, pin, pine, bit, bite, hid, and hide.  The bonus words are:  plan, plane, girl, boy, and  house.  This week's spelling word test will be on Friday, February 17th.

Writing----The students will be writing their own stories, using the characters from "Tell Me a Story" and "My Robot" story.  The students will also be writing spelling word sentences and descriptions of nouns---using adjectives to describe their noun picture.

Handwriting----The students will be printing in their handwriting workbooks.

Science----Everyone will be learning about "How a Frog Grows" and "How Animals Need Plants".

Social Studies----Everyone will continue learning about Abraham Lincoln.  Then, the students will learn about our first president George Washington. "Time For Kids" magazine will also be read-----learning about several past presidents.

Crafts----Everyone will be making Valentine mail-bags, a foam heart, cards, and a Valentine hat.

Story Time----Everyone will listen to Valentine stories and stories about presidents.  Bible stories will also be read.
